Reminicing: The 90's

OMG..nostalgia for the '90s  Man do you guys make me feel a zillion years old!

Heh heh, I was teaching college back then so I get a bit of a :chuckle: that so many of you were college students! I still remember when Cobain died and so many of my students were all bent about it.

OK..they were good for me too, but I like today better :D Even if I *am* that much closer to my own check-out time (sorry, been to lots of funerals lately).

Ya know, honestly...most of the great cars from back then (including the ones I had) could get smoked by a lot of today's grocery-getters.

I know my '02 Maxima cheesed off a couple of Impala SS owners. :chuckle:

I remember the early 90's in high school with the emergence of grunge and death of glam rock like the group Warrant. Anyone remember the video "Cherry Pie?!" My friends loved her. I remember arguing with them that the girl from Chris Isaak's video "Wicked Games" was 10 times hotter! I drove my parent's 1986 Saab 9000s.

College was a blur - too fast (among other reasons!) I can write a book on my time away from home there. I graduated in 1996 (fortunately debt free) and worked in NY City. I remember making insane amounts of cash due to what Alan Greenspan called "irrational exuberance" in the stock market with the dot com companies - buying $9 stocks and selling them for $120. I remember getting in on eBay when it went public (long since sold). My friends and I would rack up $1,200.00 steak dinner bills and then roll over to the premier NY City strip clubs and get the "VIP treatment." I would see celebrities like Howard Stern. We would drive to Atlantic City, eat, drink and play black jack and then drive back up (no sleep) and go to work in the same clothes only to go out again the next night somewhere else outrageous. It was crazy. I was plied with cash. It was like funny money. I had my expenses covered and blew the rest. If only I saved it. I spent all of it. It would have made a nice down payment on a home.

We'll never see that again. I remember my father telling me to relax and save, think long term; that what was occurring was not normal and its going to bite me in the arse hard.

EDIT: check it out boys! Remember this?

Now this is who *I* loved!

YouTube - Wicked Game

I remember in either '96 or '98 I was at a gas station with my buddy. The price was 99.9 cents/gallon for regular. The guy next to us said, "Enjoy it boys, you'll never see the gallons out number the price on a pump again." That was a pretty smart man.

Cars I remember from the 90's:

Mean Sleeper Sedans:

Taurus SHO

Nissan Maxima

Impala SS

Mitsubishi Galant VRX

Others:

The debut of the C5 Vette

Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo

Toyota Supra

Nissan 300Z Twin Turbo

Mustang 5.0 (the notchback was awesome)

i remember seeing her on an episode of married with children where they were in the frozen food aisle (they didn't have AC) in the supermarket, and that girl was shopping and Al would purposely drop something behind her so he could see her bend over...

Brilliant! Great find Al! That's a whole other thread; TV shows from the 90's. Married With Children is right up there with the classics. I have to admit, I was a huge Beverly Hills 90210 fan. I remember when it was on Monday nights when I was in college. I would watch it with the girls in their apartment and then sprint over to the bar for the start of Monday Night Football with the guys.

I remember paying $0.84 a gallon at a Gulf station in 1998 down the Jersey Shore where my good friend lived. I remember it because it was the cheapest I've ever seen and I was filling my then new 98 Altima SE.

Amen! I had three SHOs. Great mid 6 second to 60 cars and low 15's in the quarter with mid 90's trap speeds. And I loved all those cars you listed. I've got a soft spot for fast four doors. Maybe with the addition of the Audi S6. Some of the other great fun cars were the RX-7 twin turbo, 3000 VR-4/Dodge Stealth RT Turbo, E36 M3, Volvo T5-R. I'm sure I could go on.

Was in college from 91-96...yep squeezed that four year degree into five years. Great years.

Heck, the new Maximas, Accords and Camrys will blow many of those old Q-ships away. But that'll happen after 10-15 years.

Certain some great fun cars out there now too. It's just that so many of them are fat pigs. Getting harder to find those cars that just hover around 3200-3300 lbs.

Heck of a way to meet chicks ;)

I also loved Star Trek Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Can't forget about Saved by the Bell. I loved Kelly who later appeared on 90210. I remember the Simpsons on the Tracey Ullman Show.

And don't forget Beavis and Butthead :D I'm *still* telling people "settle *down*, Beavis!"

Spilchy- IIRC the model in the Cherry Pie video is named Bobbie Brown...can't quite remember who the girl in Wicked Game is (gee, I *am* getting old :o ).

A few more memories:

Red Dog beer

The "Ice" beer craze

The debut of King of the Hill and Southpark

Beverly Hills 90210

That would be the viral Christmas episode that floated around the internet. ;)

I remember my girlfriend's brother at the time was a Computer Science major in Madison and had showed it to me, as well as this wonderful file sharing network that could let me have any song I ever wanted.

Oh yeah, I'm feelin' ya. ST:NG FTW. Never quite got in to DS9. Just watched a few of the latter epic space battle episodes.

Can't wait for the new Abrams helmed ST movie to come out. Kinda :angry they pushed the release date back from Christmas to next summer.

In the '90s I was single and could go out to the bars every night if I wanted! :bounce The grunge music was cool too.

...At least I take better care of my car now. But I must admit that I sometimes miss the days when I didn't know what I was doing ... it took like a tenth of the time for me to "detail" my car.

Got that right! I've learned a lot at this site over the last couple years.

The 90's were not so fun for me. Got divorced and lost both my parents (dad in '92 and mom is '99).

Sorry to hear that Mose. Yeah, that would certainly make for a sucky decade in my book as well. :(
