Relabeling vs. Private labeling

I have been reading in many different forums about “re-labeling” of products, and there is always somebody who knows somebody (usually a "confidential" source), who is sure that ABC is making this and that for XYZ.
First thing is does it really make a difference who makes what for who.

Does anyone really think that all of these people are actually making their own products in their private factories…get real.
I have worked in industries where I supplied manufacturers that did private labeling, and in ones where items were privately labeled for us, and I can say that they are NOT always the same thing as the manufacturer puts out in their own name. Are they and can they be similar…sure, but not the same.

When you go to Sears and buy a Craftsman tool or a Kenmore washer, refrigerator, air conditioner, etc…
Do you actually think that it is made by Sears? It’s being made by another company to Sears specifications.
So what would make the car care industry any different? A product will be made to the customers specifications.

Would the manufacturer ever say who they are making for. No, that’s bad business.
Would the manufacturer ever divulge what the specific formula is? No, because that could lead to a law suit.

I guess what I am saying is:
If you like the product, use it.
If you like the person who sells it, use it.
If you like the product and you like the person who sells it, double bonus!
Many of the similar products (swirl removers, sealants, glazes…) are pretty close in price so pick the product you like, and lets stop picking on the person who has their name on the bottle.

Thanks for listening

Re: Relabeling/Private labeling

Agreed. I could never understand why everyone wants to get so riled up about it. Everyone wants to believe that they have some "secret info" or know something special that no one else knows. The funny part is, most of these types couldn't tell the difference in products in a blind test.

As you stated, use whatever you like. I do!

There's a big difference in relabeling and products coming from the same place ... yet a lot of people can't figure out the difference between the two ...

I agree.
Trust me this subject has been brought up and it went around and around on who made/makes what for whom.It got old fast.:passout:

Thats why I started this, I'm at such a loss why anyone cares so much.

I don't see anyone running out to see who makes paint for HD or Lowes or things of that nature. So why is it such a burning thing in car care? Some of these people act as if they found the Holy Grail or something.

When I mix different products I write on the bottle something so I will know what it is so I guess I'm guilty of relabeling :D

I think I've seen some of these vehicles that were "blind test" detailed --- it's as if someone was wearing a blindfold when they did the buffing
:rofl:rofl:rofl
Now I understand how it happens

The issue is about marketing. A company can invest a fortune in establishing a brand name since a brand name will command a premium price. When people say a certain brand is made by so and so and available for a cheaper price, it undercuts the brand image.

From the buyer side, many like to think they are getting a deal when they buy something so when they think they are buying a local cost copy, it makes feel like the beat the system.
