regarding speeding and getting pegged

Stay out of the left lane !!!!!

Glad to hear someone from Jersey understands what the left lane is for. I get behind more individuals from Jersey (or maybe I just pay more attention to them) here in Philly that get in the left lane and never move over to allow others to pass. You flash your lights, point to the other lane--and they still won't move--just clueless. I followed a guy for 8 miles on the Blue Route who was doing 60 and would not move from the left lane. I had a semi riding my butt, so I moved over and let him have a shot at the guy. Thought the semi was going to run the guy off the road. He hit his horns and probably got no more than a couple feet off the guys bumper. Idiot finally got the hint and moved over--everyone who passed him flipped him off--as I did--he had the nerve to give us the bird. Ah, life in Philly--where even old people will give you the one-finger salute.

Life is good, so go and F yourself.

The other point to staying out of the left lane is that

the police pay VERY close attention to the passing lane.

Thats where they get the speeders from.

Every time I got pulled over for speeding I was in the left lane.

Think about it. Where were you before you were pulled over?

I no longer speed in the left lane. I enjoy myself in the other lanes.

Not here! i've been on the road in high school and he two speeding tickets that i've gotten both happen in the right most lane.

I think the fuzz pays more attention to the right lane rather than the passing lane.

Just a thought?!...

I think it all depends on what traffic is like. Often, when traffic is heavy, I find the right lane to be the fastest becasue not everyone and there mother moves to the left lane to try passing everyone else. This is also true in traffic jams (unless there is an accident)

Next time when you're stuck in traffic take a look at the right lane and follow one of the cars there to see if you are in front or behind them by the time traffic clears up. You'll be surprised.

Oh, and Chewy, I do the same thing if there is someone not moving out of the left lane. I've got a regular sedan, so I'll let an SUV or large truck ride on a slow person's bumper. The headlinghts in the rear view mirror are very intimidating for most people. Btw, in many states I beleive its against the law to cause a delay of more then 6 cars behind you so people going too slow (even if it's the speed limit) can get a ticket.

Medic:

Never heard of such laws--but I like it! I agree with you that you can often navigate to the right lane and get ahead. I travel an interstate that goes from two lanes to three--I can usually get in the right lane and get ahead of all of the left-lane traffic that I have been following.

I really hope some day that technology allows us to send messages to other cars that would go across some sort of screen in the windshield. Just a simple message asking those ingorant soles that it would be greatly appreciated if they would move from the left lane so others could pass. I typically stay in the middle lane and follow what everyone else is doing, but on those days I have to get somewhere--it never fails I get behind someone holding up traffic in the left lane.

God grant me the serenity...

:up :xyxthumbs

Very true! the right lane can be fastest in jams, especially when witty drivers are trying to bail off the highway....it just creates a smooth moving lane...sometimes it can backfire when there's a busy merge though...

Messages!!!!...Serenity!!!... I think NY and NJ show grant me that authority to hand out tickets and revoke licenses for stupidity on the highways and bi-ways!!!....

On the same note, this morning travel on RT 3 in NJ traffic is flowing, then all of a send it seems like there's a huge jam, come to find out the some moron in the middle lane decides he wants to be a genius and drive at 50!!!...All traffic found itself darting out and into the other lanes.... do you think he moved other?

God grant me serenity....NJ, NY grant me the authority!!!...

Posted speed limits here in No.Va area and DC area are 65mph on the interstate.

If you are going that speed you better be in the far right lane (we have 4 lanes). I do 75-80 to work everyday and I get passed all the time.

I've had cops pass me as I was doing 75 and he had to be doing at least 80. Never gave me a second look.

I only "park" in the left lane if I'm passing people. As long as I'm going faster then the car to my right, I'll stay in the left.

HOWEVER, if I see someone come up behind me, I have no problems accelerating to pass the car to the right of me, or moving over if there is room. :D

To may people these days don't understand the meaning of "slower traffic right" and flashing your lights.

I've actually had people flip me off for flashing my lights at them... LOSERS :down

Three Things I have that never get me a ticket.

#1 Radar Detector - Valentine 1.

i-1.JPG

There is nothing else better. accept no substitution.

#2 Police Scanner - Uniden Beartracker BCT-7

i-1.JPG

scans for police radios and such and lets you know when you are in close proximity to sheriffs, highway patrol, local police, etc.

you may also listen in on the channels. Highly Entertaining.

I heard about a helicopter and 3 cops going after a Porche 911 and a Z06 one day.

#3 Your Eyes. - No substitute for this. sometimes they dont have their radio or radar on. then whatcha gonna do?

None of these by themselves are 100 percent.

but all together your pretty much immune to anything but extreme stupidity and bad luck.

Kind of like sex. its layering protection.

Using all of these in conjuction along with some common sense.

You will never get a ticket and you can assume speeding as much as you want within reason (ie I speed a average of 85 or 90 all the time with no traffic)

you can use a radar jammer if it's legal in your state...

and flashy color attracts cop that from my experince with my red car..

problem is those passive jammers are a scam.

The Rocky Mountain Radar company is being served numerous lawsuits currently for that.

They have been proven time and time again to not work.

The only kind of legal jammer that does work is the laser jammer

and that only works if they aim at your license plate.

alot of the times they will aim at your headlights.

The other kind of jammer that does work is the Phantom VRCD

and that is a "active" jammer illegal under Federal law. your gonna be in trouble for more then just speeding if your caught with that.

furthermore work on the VRCD was canned before it was able to jam KA band signals which alot of cops use today.(Although alot still use K-band) It only jams K-band and X-band signals.

also yeah..

Cops like to stop Yellow & Red since they are more noticeable

especially if they are really nicely detailed.

I like my black color. Its Stealth! although the S100 Reflection can garner attention occasionally.

I have never been pulled over since I got my radar detector. I use a passport 8500, which was rated number 1 by every consumer rating company when I bought it about 3 years ago.

It has literally saved me at least 20 times.

Funny that this topic would come up....last weekend at the car show I met the guy who invented Ultratech, which is now the state of the art system. He only sells them to new car dealers, with Champion Porsche being his largest client. He wholesales them for $1500 and the dealer charges about $2K for the installed unit.

Anway, turns out we met somplace before and he remembered me...showed me the unit in his car and offered to install it in my car at cost (a little more than a passport) if I would do a write up on it after the first month of use.

What's cool about his unit is it is built into the rear view mirror and looks 100% stock.

We're doing it today at 2:00...

Here's a pix from his tech sheet....Pretty Cool or What?

How is it better then the V1?

what are its features?

looks interesting..

Ive seen custom installations of the V1 in rearview mirrors.

or you could offer to do defensive driving classes and they might let you down lower....

kinda ironic..... 76 must be a popular speed to get pegged at, since mine was 76 in a 35 :o

Got nailed with reckless, careless, stop sign, stop light, excessive high speed. Ugh that sucked.

I would love to have my detector in my review mirror. I looked all over for one about a year ago and I gave up. They just weren't being produced really. I researched it to death and figured that I'd have better luck in a few years.

I've got a Uniden on my dash. As long as it beeps once in awhile, and it is actually beeping at radar signals most of those times, then I'm happy.

It has only gone off for laser 3 times since I've had it. The first time I got nailed. I even had a laser jammer in the car. Laser detection isn't going to help you because by the time they hit you with the laser, they could probably eye ball your speed anyway. The other two times I wasn't speeding so it wasn't a problem.

I have a heavy foot and I know it. I'm not going 140 mph on a regular basis and I know that a radar dectector doesn't make my speed any safer, but it does remind me to slow down when I'm just out and about. It has saved my butt more times than I can count. I doubt that a detector costing 10 times as much could have done a better job. The times I've been pulled over are times when no radar detector on earth could have saved me because my radio was on too loud to hear the one I have. :p lol

I find there is no substitute for a good lawyer. All tickets in recent memory have been dismissed, including one really bad period when I got 4 speeding tickets in 6 weeks.

Amen to that one. That's what prepaidlegal is for. :xyxthumbs I've only had one ticket appear on my record since 1992. Prepaidlegal has saved me literally thousands of dollars in traffic fines. look em up on google if you don't know what I'm talking about. :)

A few words of advice: get a better laser jammer.

It wouldn't have made a difference. I was going 115 in the left lane and I could see the cop in between the lanes before he pegged me with the laser. He zapped me about 2 seconds before I passed him. A jammer wouldn't have done squat for me. Utah only has a couple laser cops out there anyway. Getting zapped 3 times total in the last few years isn't enough to warrant getting a high priced jammer.

I'm still not sure how having a better laser jammer would not have helped in your situation. If you saw him, you should have tried to slow down and once he had the first reading on you (which was jammed), it might have given you time to slow down to a more reasonable speed before you tried again. In California, 115 is "arrest me" territory. Explain that to me again, I obviously don't get it.
