Reflections Detailing: 2000 Corvette C5

My self and another high quality detailer (SuperBee) had the opportunity to work on a trio (black Vette, Ferrari Moden 360 F1, 911) of cars that needed some paint corrections done to restore them to better than new. Lucky for us the owner is a car enthusiast and really valued our workmanship, and was always in the garage seeking advice to keep the cars looking as good as possible, he is also a VERY nice guy to work for.

The hood and front quarters were repainted 2 years ago, the repaint was super soft! A real PITA to work with, the rest of the car was the standard corvette clear. The repaint areas would scratch with the softest MF towels on the market!

Exterior:

P21s Total auto wash to remove the years of “stuff on the paint surface

Inspection in the sun to reveal the defects.

Foam Cannon the car for maximum dwell time.

Clayed the entire car to prep the surface for maximum gloss

P21s wheel gel cleaner

P21s TAW on the inner wheels to remove heavy brake dust

Amazing roll off the tires

Megs 105 and purple foamed wool

Menzerna 106FA finishing pad

Menzerna Final Polish II finishing pad

IPA wipe down after each polishing phase

Re-foam the car to remove any polishing oils and prep for the sealant

Rinsed with RO water, allowed to dry.

Interior:

Deep vac carpets

Steamed all surfaces

Extracted floor mats

Wiped down all hard surfaces with ONR

Owner wanted a matt finish and ONR gave that

All glass cleaned with Sprayway (perfect for aftermarket tined windows)

Engine Detail:

Clean with P21s TAW

Rinse with RO water

Dry

CD-2 all the hoses, shrouds, and plastics

Dress:

Z16 on tires

Black WOW

Danase Wet

Finish Kare FK 1000p (two coats)

Finish Kare FK 1000p on the wheels

Outstanding work!

FYI - high ISO seems like the culprit to me. Here's the last shot cleaned up a bit in Noiseware Pro...

IMG_1402_filtered.jpg

the garage is a LARGE 4 car, drains, hot and cold, High output flor lights, heat, windows, sealed floor. SuperBee asked the owner if we could really foam the car in the gargage, owner said yes do do.......SuperBees response "this is like drinking a beer in church!"

Why the pics are gainy I don't know, the ISO was set to auto. I wonder if its because I added a watermark?

Cheers,

GREG

Chances are if you gave it a watermark, you've compromised the original shot... in other words, the picture has been resized at a differnt quality level :)!

The watermark wouldn't generate the noise - my guess is the auto ISO was at "fault" - possibly also a function of whatever the white balance settings may have been. I noticed in your pics the EXIF information had been stripped - I'm guessing by an app that resized the photo? If you can view the properties of one of the original files, the ISO information should be in there. Just a guess, but I'd expect that number to be in the 800 or even 1600 range.

In any case, sorry for the tangent. Again, awesome work on the car!

Nice work guys. Sounds like a fun one with the standard hard clear and a soft repaint.

If I may.....The watermark positioning is taking away from the work on the car.

Thanks for the props! I've struggled with the water mark issue, I've found too many of my photos on other detailers websites. When I put the watermark down in the lower corners they just crop them out. PM me if anyone has a simple idea how to deal with this.

That guy's garage is every man's fantasy. It is *completely* decked out with everything... well, almost. He doesn't have a lift yet, but says that's in the works.

The place is just amazing.

The owner is one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of working for.

Here he has a stable of every guy's fantasy exotic cars, and he's gushing over my superbee. That was pretty cool.

I really hope we get to work for him again.

Ferrari shots, Greg? :)

The Ferrari will be coming soon! Need time to compile the write up. I think the Ferrari turned out Amazing, a bit more so than the vette (super soft paint is so finicky).

Cheers,

GREG
