Reflections Detailing: 100 yr old Stove

This was not my normal detailing client, but they had heard I "know how to Polish".

I was put to work on this stove that has NEVER been cleaned, and its over a 100yrs old and still works. I think I cleaned out dried bread dough in the handles!

the metal was nickle and wow that stuff is hard. I used 105 and small wool pads, vapor steamer, Flitz, some wet sanding.

Sorry no befores.... took about 7 hrs!

Holly cow!

That thing has probably got to be worth some money???

Very cool Greg! Thanks for sharing! :2thumbs:

Now there's something different!

Greg Nichols- Good job, that sure turned out nice.

Was there much carbon build-up to deal with?

I think it is, however you could not steal it, it takes 4 grown men to move!

Thanks Accum! The carbon was not bad as they keep up on that. The exterior was grimy in all the nooks. The oven handle was a dark brown color dirt, baking materials, etc...

Greg,

Did you use any lsp on that? :nervous2:

Or just finish it down with a polish.

:2thumbs: Nice.....

No lsp as they use it now and then. The Flitz polish has a anti oxidation preserve in it, I use it on my wood stove and the brass has yet to tarnish after 2 years.

Dang! I wish I could have seen the befores!

It was dull and lifeless, lots of lard baked on the exterior, bread dough, rust, tarnish. I just didn't think to document it at the time, didn't think it would brighten up like it did.

Now that there is just really really cool greg!!!! Looks awesome

Thanks Barry! While its not a Ferrari its highly unique.

That is way cool! How do you charge for something like that?

I charged per hour as I didn't know how to price it either! My per hour was less then doing a car, but business was slow at the time, great people, and a unique project.

GREG

Hah... my parents have one of these. Good memories. Yup, those pieces are nickel plated, and the main parts are something like enamel or ceramic over cast iron. My Dad uses 'stove black' on the top of theirs every year. Not as nice as this one though.

I had a good time watching the progress, and the look on the owners faces.

is that a bucket of coal?! lol, very neat

Yep that is good ole coal, they have a ton of it out back. They use the stove now and then.
