Referring out business

I was just wondering if anyone refers out paint correction work? I just have the skills and time to do a killer interior detail and I doubt I'l ever get into the full blown paint correction aspect. Would it be reasonable/practicably/wise for me to have a service for full paint correction that is actually just sending the client to someone else for a 10% fee (10% of whatever the paint correction work costs)? I would think something like that could be mutually beneficial.

Edit: Also, is 10% too little too much? I just threw that number out there, if it's a new client for the detailer I'm referring a customer to, that could be very valuable.

i would be worried that the detailer who you refer paint correction out to may try and step in on your interior business... just my $0.02

and i have no idea about the 10%...that could yield a decent amount for you if you find someone to pair with

Good point, ideally if the person doing the paint correction remained anonymous (the client would (be informed) know that this was being done by someone that was not me (my "paint correction specialist")) the detailer could come in and do the paint correction and get the 90%. $360 on a $400 dollar job they would not otherwise have had.

I could see it working if you refered it out to someone who didn't do this on a full time basis. You could probally work a deal out with Rasky (Rasky's Auto Detailing) on doing your paint corrections. If you're really good at interior detailing, he may get you to do some iof his interior work

A full-blown detail shop would cut you out of the picture IMO

I agree that you are most likely going to be cut out of the picture all together. If it is just one or two jobs once in a while it might be okay. IMO you are better off trying to find someone who is good at paint correction and try to merge you business and open a shop. I am good at interiors, but not really a fan but it does give me something else to do since polishing can be sooooo boring at times.

You better really know and trust....and REALLY know, who you are sending them to. There are more dishonorable businessmen than there are honorable and all they will see is the potentially lost revenue by letting the interior work slip through their hands.

On the other hand, if someone approached me with the ability to offer my full correction work with a 10% fee, I'd be all over it and would honor my agreement. There is something to be said of keeping busy and 90% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

In a similar vane, I've worked the same thing in the past with a Mike at Mirror when I could not get around to taking care of someone. I believe him to be an honorable person and have since sent many referrals without fear. Point being, there are guys out there.

You could always take in the car and sublet the work out to another person? This way they will never meet your vendor. Shops do this all the time.
