Red '95 BMW M3 - anything special I need to know?

Hey gang, I'm doing a red M3 tomorrow, and man is the paint on this thing really neglected. The passenger's side door feels like 2000 grit sand paper, I kid you not. Does this car have a clear coat, and is there anything special I need to know about the trim? I'm going to hit it with my PC using a Meguiar's red cutting pad and SMR 2.0, or should I step up to 3M SMR for dark cars, then hit it with Meguiar's yellow pad w/their SMR 2.0? Thanks for any tips on this one :)

Yes it does have clearcoat, assuming it is still the factory paint.

Not sure what to recommend in regards to the swirl remover, although I would really suggest claying the car first.

I wouldn't think SMR vs #9 to be much of a difference. You might want to consider something stronger like a fine cut compound or DACP, then a swirl remover. But it's an in-person judgement call as to how swirled or "neglected" the finish is. If you're unsure, the default process is to try a swirl remover first, then move up if that takes too long or isn't getting you anywhere. Good luck.

I'd definately clay before the smirl remover if it really feels that rough. Post pics of before and after. That'd be sweet.

Thanks guys. I'm doing the car on Saturday morning instead of this morning. And you can bet that I'll post before and after pics :)
