Recommendations for new Subaru WRX?

I've been away from the game for a few years, and have recently picked up a new Subaru WRX. I would like to Opti-Coat the car within the next couple of weeks, but I've heard that Subaru paint is notoriously soft and sticky. Do you guys have any tips/recommendations for detailing one of these?


 


Here's what I currently have in my arsenal:
<ul>[*]Hitachi rotary and PC 7424
[*]Menzerna SIP and PO85RD
[*]Meguiar's M205
[*]Optimum Hyper Polish and Optimum Polish
[*]3M Ultrafina
[*]LC foam pads
[*]Meguiar's MF pads

Get rid of it and get something else would be my first suggestion. Yes, the paint is that horrible to deal with. 


 


PC, foam pads, play around with the polishes you have until you (hopefully) find one that doesn't stick like glue, or you'll end up doing this:

I was afraid of that. I've been reading up a lot on the 3D line of polishes lately. How well would they work for this car? Or am I screwed no matter what I use?

Not only the clear is soft and sticky, but the quality of the paint/clear is very poor.


 


I didn't do a complete detail on mine (Subaru WRX 2012) yet, but I did try PO85RD with a black pad and had some respectable results.

Wow, I was not expecting that good of a result with just PO85RD and a black pad! Man, this paint must be REALLY soft...
 
I have done a couple of Subarus and yes, the paint is very soft.


 


I had great success with Menzerna SF4000 on a black bad and crimson pad if i recall correctly.

Would you please be kind enough to provide some insight as to why you are doing what you are doing in that video? I have never seen this done before and would like to understand the steps involved and what they do.

Not my video. Found it when someone else mentioned doing it to remove the polish residue that would not wipe off. Water buffing was able to remove the residue without re-marring the paint.
