Recommend Air Freshener?

if you want to get rid of a musty/bad odor spray a 1:1 water:vinegar mix onto the carpet, upholstry and headliner and let it sit and evaporate by itself. Also, let the car sit in the sun with the windows cracked while you have a bowl of straight vinegar sitting in one of the foot wells. The evaporation of the vinegar will eliminate most of the odor. This has worked for me, although the smell was not too bad to begin with.

+1 vinegar

This would also help remove smoky odors. I am biased, though, to freshening the interior as opposed to adding a scent as I tend to have my windows up most of the time and get headaches when the smells build up inside.

Okay, I just ordered a few Big D Foggers - never heard of them, thanks for posting it. Any tips on use? Do you have to clean up after it? It's supposed to be for 6000 cubic feet, so in a car ... ?

I recommend you NOT to use CG air freshner in that gallon bottle. Lasts about 2 days. Smells good but doesn't last. Yet another CG product I am not satisfied with.

Where do you get the wonder wafers?

I have the leather scent CG air freshener, and I have to agree. Smells nice but after 2-3 days it's gone.

The only way I have ever found to totally eliminate just about any smell is to clean thoroughly using steam.

I use one of these things:

Steam cleaner, steam cleaners, steam cleaning, steam vapor cleaners

& I have yet to find a smell that it will not eliminate. I was working on an 04 Jag X-Type that a neighbor bought recently that had an extremely STRONG smoke smell. He had completely cleaned/shampooed the interior & that helped but the smell came back rather quickly. His wife has tons of airborne allergies & cannot ever drive with the windows down.

I brought his car to my house & steamed every inch of the interior & also blew steam all through the A/C & heat ducts (this is a big key to it). I also ran an ozone machine in it, but that probably wasn't really necessary).

The car smells new now without any artificial air freshener smells & it has been almost 6 months.

I bought Perfecar's 4 oz air freshener combo pack, which are just relabeled Chemical Guy's air fresheners.

I've yet to try out all the scents that came with it, but so far I've been really disappointed with it, especially the lemon lime scent. I must have sprayed at the minimum 4-6 sprays on each carpet floor mats (total of 4) and by the time I walk around the car to spray the other side, all the scent is gone. I might as well have not sprayed anything at all.

I could understand if I had been using this product for awhile and my nose had gotten use to the scent, but this was the first time I had used it so my nose was not familiar with the scent.

I've tried a number of brands, labeled new car scent and i have yet to find one that does. :nixweiss

Well that new car smell is toxic anyways, not sure you want that LOL.:dance

I'm one of those that likes the smell of a new car and I've yet to smell any product that actually smells like a new car.

There are some odd scents that I like for some reason. Like opening new electronics for example. It always reminds me of the time I was 5 and opened into my NES box and took it out of its styrofoam. Another wierd scent I like is the smell of water droplets first hitting concrete pavement.

i hate what my bf calls BMW smell.

it smells like bleach, ice and leather.

i have a yankee candle company warmer which is the size of a quarter and smells just as awesome as their candle line. i got purple lavender one but the cinibun brown sugars and spiced apple are a close 2nd. they are light and clean - your car will NOT smell like grandma's bedroom i promise - i tucked mine under the passenger seat.

i know they are made for cabinets and stuff but they are neat and smell good - you can find them at LNT or bed bath and beyond for $2+change.

i forgot to add duration - it lasts 6/+ months depending on how open it is.

are these the tarts that you're referring to or the votives? I never thought about that, but now that you bring it up that makes sense since most car interiors get warm and the tarts are supposed to work with wamers IIRC. My wife has what seems to be a lifetime supply of Yankee Candle, so I'm sure we got some around the house somewhere. I like their "Clean Cotton" scent for a guy.

tarts - they look like scalloped edge circles. I only opened the plastic on the top but scratching it open with my nails - i don't want it in contact with my rugs and I do not like strong smells.

LOL @ life time supply. Clean cotton is not manly, smells like laundry & sunshine :P

I use the Yankee Candle, "car jars". They're cardboard , but the one called "midsummers night" smells very masculine, not sweet or girly. I usually just open the top and stuff it under the seat. Lasts about a month or so, costs relatively little compared to what my wife spends on candles for the house!

I'm a big fan of the car jar as well. I've used the leather scent for the past year and replace it once every two months or so. Cost about three bucks each, but I've received comments from others that my car still smells "new" after nearly 80K miles. I just place it under my passenger seat in front of the rear vent and it fills the car with the scent. Works great for me!

hahahha, you're right. Clean cotten isn't the manliest scent, but for me it's one of those unisex scents. I love the smell of fresh laundry, although my laundry hasn't smelled like that in ages. Maybe it's the way moms used to wash clothes back then.

My wife and I have had huge arguments about her spending habits at Yankee Candle. She's calmed down a bit a few years ago after she went a bit crazy at the Yankee Candle headquarter store in Massachusetts.

I've personally never understood women and candles. I've always thought of it as a slow way to burn money, especially with the prices Yankee Candle charges. But I do have to admit that Yankee Candle sure knows how to make the scents smell like what they're supposed to smell like. Their chemists mixing up and creating these scents are geniuses!

Lol i just noticed this post andothers like it and had to reply.

What, do you expect a few sprays of a liquid air freshner to last as long as a wonder wafer,x-mas tree thing or some other scent soaked material? Thats trying to compare apples to oranges. :bigups No matter what brand of liquid air freshner you use, you're not going to get more then a few days out of it.
