Received the PakShak UltraSoft towel today...

The shipping charges seemed very reasonable on my order. IIRC what PakShack actually charged me was less than the metered label on the package!

I gotta admit I'm feeling a bit lost with all the different types/variations of MFs these days. I've noticed some differences in WWs, and I like the suede-style ones for buffing off sealant residues. But when it comes to polishes, waxes, and QDs, is there some supposed reason *not* to just using the plushest, softest towels you can get? I just use the same ones (from YoSteve) for these jobs and never had any issues; even stuff like #16 and 476S comes off just fine and no micromarring even on the Jag's soft paint. So I don't see any point in having a bunch of different types of MFs; I *do* appreciate the logic behind edgeless/soft-edge ones, but the other differences are kinda lost on me :nixweiss Of course, if somebody were to enlighten me I'd probably go buy a bunch of them :D But unless there's an appreciable functional difference I don't see the point.

The plush ones are great for QDing, more there to work with the liquid. The not so plush MFs remove polish/wax/sealant easier for me than the plusher ones (tend to stick to much). I also like the different color's, LOL I'm sick of blue.

I can't justify using a $5 towel to clean door jambs and do other jobs like that. I have many different "grades" of MFs that are exclusive to a specific job or type of job. The MFs I use on exterior paint during a detail NEVER see dirt. I never use them in door jambs because there always seems to be a spot of dirt/grease that I missed when cleaning. The last thing I want is to wipe off some wax and scratch the paint, after I just finished polishing scratches out. :(

White95Max- Yeah, I have some cheapies I bought a long time ago that I use for nasty stuff, and I have ones that're demoted to less-than-crucial duty. But as far as buying new ones, I sorta suspect it's like what John Styrnol posted- if something works better/easier for you (discernable functional difference) *then* there's a point.

I can understand that however some of our personal cars probably have spotless door jambs. You can eat off my door jambs so using quality MF is my regimen actually. For client cars I am sure it is a different story judging from the neighbors' cars...

I have some Fiber Works towels in for review. I may have time to do the review this week depending on work. Some of them are very nice.

I'm a bit lost myself on what towels are best for each purpose.

The towels I have know .. well, they aren't great, so I'm going to place an order with PakShak. I've tried to summarize the types and descriptions for towels from their site.

Ultra - all purpose towel, take-off compounds, waxes, polishes, sealants

Ultra-Smooth - all purpose towel

Ultra-Plush - QD towel

Ultra-Fine - final buffing

Ultra-Soft WW - drying

WW - drying

I'm not sure what towels would be best for interior cleaning, perhaps ultra-plush?

where is the ultra-smooth better than the ultra?

same question for ultra-soft WW vs. WW.

hope its ok to post this on this thread, i think it'd be good to get opinions on each towel and their best uses.

For interiors, glass, I would use the Ultra

Ultra Smooth for Polish/Wax/Sealant removal and/or QD

Ultra-Soft WW could use for drying, glass

WW - drying
