Recalling memories of #26

My truck was dirty, I mean REALLY dirty. Spent the past two weeks up in NoAZ in the mountains and over 600mi driving on dirt road, mud, and cow pies. So I have her a bath this morning, mostly with the pressure washer just to get the caked on stuff off.

No need to clean/polish the surface as she is only 2 months old. So my next decision was what use for wax. Well, about a month ago I picked up a can of #26 at AutoZone for $.99 (couldn't resist). Haven't really used #26 in a few years, so I thought I would give it a try. Easy on, but definately NOT easy off. And then the dust. Looks great, but not worth the work.

:hah Ah ha! Now I remember why I stopped using it!

Funny, I always liked #26 and still use it. One thing I never get is dust and certainly don't have trouble getting it off.

I apply it with the PC and finishing pad and remove with MF. Very nice product IMO and pretty durable for carnauba.

I guess that is why there are so many different products available.

I always apply by hand. I know that makes it go on a little thicker, and thus harder to remove and more dust. I guess I'll have to give it another shot with the PC.

I also have heat working against me. In the shade in my garage it was 109 yesterday. Makes everything dry quickly and hard.

Do you use liquid or paste?

I have used both with great results, but liquid lately.

I know what you mean about heat and humidity, it can really make products behave differently!!!

I agree, humidity and applying to heavy a coat can make #26 a bit more difficult to remove. The only thing that I didn't care for with #26 is the way it stained trim.

To be honest, I prefer the look of the new LS over #26. Both are fine products, but do have a bit different look. However, #26 is still an awesome product on red, and probably is a bit more durable than LS!

Boss, I have never had #26 stain trim, in fact that is one reason that I used it for so long. Was there an earlier version that maybe stained trim? Even on the back of my bottle it states that it will not dry white and stain trim.

Just wondering.

No doubt about #26 on red! Seems to just make it glow!!!

Years ago #26 was the product. It worked well and gave a good durabile shine.Fast foward to today there are better products that are available and #26 falls to the backround

alan81,
My sentiments exactly.

One quick questions... how do you guys apply #26 to the PC pads? All my other past waxes 'fall' out of the container and I can wipe it around the pad, #26 is in the can for good.

You can apply it with a butter knife to the pad.

FWIW, while I feel that there are others products out there, #26 still holds its own IMO. To me, it is a good combination of looks/durability especially for a carnauba. A well balanced product IMO and one that I "re-visit" on occassion. If #26 was private labeled for a small company called "donkey wax" (you get the idea) it would probably be talked about more. JMO.

I guess I was confused (what else is new)
I use the liquid #26
Easy on and off with very little dusting.
I like the look it gives especially when applied over #3 Glaze

EBP,

Ya know, you could be right. They may have changed the formula over the years, or I may have thinking of MPPP. Tooooooooo many products, and getting tooooooooooo old. :D

Whatever the case, I agree, #26 is a fine wax!

I still like #26 also, my favorite combo was AIO topped with #26. I have never had a problem appling it or removing. Sounds as though you used too much product. I guess I'm like the song John Conlee sang, "Old School".......lol
