real bad leather

i've been real lazy about working on my leather. i used to just wipe it down with water and then use some armor all leather wipes, but now i really want to get it into better condition.



my leather's overall condition is pretty bad. most of it is cracking and drying. pretty much rough to the touch, somewhat dirty and, only soft toward the center areas (since the sun dosent come in contact with it as much as other areas?). overall you visual can see the leathers condition is pretty bad.



what do you guys think i can do for it? what products do would you guys reccomened for my bad leather?

You might want to try the Scottwax technique of Woolite (or similar) diluted in water 1:10 - 1:6 for really dirty leather.

I tried it this weekend and I was very impressed, it cleaned and softened leather that looked like it had not been cleaned for many years if ever (seats are at least 13 years old).



Leather lost its dry and shiney look and became softer and firmer (and a lot cleaner :D )



Are the Leatherique products OK on coated leather? Their website only seems to talk about 'real' leather.
 
What Deanski said. Go get Leatherique. You need a bottle of prestine clean and a bottle of rejuvinator oil and follow the directions to a T. Do a search here and you will find more helpful tips on using as well. I like to use a spray bottle to apply the rejuvinator oil and rub it in with my hands thoroughly. This product really is amazing at cleaning the leather and getting the leather to like new or sometimes better than new condition. It's messy, but by far the best product out there.

Sure, there are other "maintenance" products, but won't touch on getting it back to new.

and thats a new m3! the leather dosent even look that bad, my leather is also 12years old atleast and looks worse than that!

Glad to help!



You will see that Leatherique will resolve really bad leather.



I did one on an old Austin Healy years ago. I removed the seats as they were that bad. After borrowing my friends paint oven to help the Leatherique oil absorb faster, then using the cleaner they came out perfect!



Put them back in the car, owner swore I recovered them, but noticed a line in the leather that he knew of. He was very amazed and quite happy to see that the original leather came out that good. This stuff is THAT good! Just odd that you oil THEN clean, but who cares as it worked so damn well!



Once you get the leather back to the way it should be, normal maintenace with good leather treatments will be fine.
