Rasky's Auto Detailing: Black '68 Corvette Conv w/427

Though I'd post this one I did a few months back since it belongs to the same owner of the '66 Vette I just finished.

1968 Corvette convertible with a 427, paint correction only.

This car was a respray about 3 years ago. It had been wet sanded and compounded, but never finished off properly. There was also a lot of deep RIDS and swirls, which appeared to be from a old or dirty buffing pad. In a few areas the paint had shrunk down and needed to be wet sanded as well. The hatch for the top had been repainted and the owner wet sanded that before I arrived.

The owner had also been doing some things that marred and scratched the finish over the years. Upon completion he was given the tools/products needed to maintain the finish and I explained how to use them.

Process:

Clay - Meguiars mild clay and Last Touch
Step 1 - M105 via rotary and Meguiars Solo heavy cutting pad
Step 2 - M105 via rotary and meguiars W7006 pad
Step 3 - M205 via rotary and LC white polishing pad
Step 4 - M205 via rotary and 3M UK finishing pad
LSP - Dodo Juice Supernatural

It was snowing the day I got there so no outdoor before pics...

The owner had some cool stuff in his garage that made for nice reflection shots...

The side pipes kicked up some dust when he pulled it back in...you can see it a little in these pics :(

Reflection of the '66 with a 427 and matching numbers...which I will be doing in the spring. ;)

I went back and got some better full sun shots today. The owner said this car does not have the L88 427 in it...though he does have one sitting in a crate. ;)

Damn............:w00t:

Two killer rides.......

Your work is excellent as per usual......

Great pictures.......

Being that the Baldwin Motion Corvette's are my favorite cars ever, I can really appericate the additions this owner has made to the car. The hood and the fender flares in particular. Just an awesome example of a slighty tricked out Mako Shark.

Great job on it Chad, HOLY CRAP!!!! I had no idea I was hanging out with such a celebrity!!!

The car looks great! Gotta love 'Vettes.

I hate to sound like a newbie, but what did you mean when you said that you wet sanded for shrinkage?

Hey Rasky... that is one sweet car! Nice work on the paint finish. Looks like new!:D

Thanks again Bill!

Great Job Rasky, looks very cold there when you did the Vette:D

Thanks Angelo!

It was very cold! I think we had gotten 8 inches of snow the 1st night I was working on the car too. Luckily the owner had a nice heated garage with a radio and TV to make the long project go faster. I?m really not a fan of working on cars off site though.

Yeah he had a decent amount of custom work into the car. I really liked the flared out fenders and wide rear tires.

LOL?.funny, I thought you were the celebrity at DF! :D

Thanks for the compliment though?.means a lot to me. ;)

excellent work and pics

Thanks Jay!

Thanks you.

The shrink areas I referred to are areas that show up after the paint has completely cured or outgased, and has now revealed sanding or body work marks which now show up in the paint. Most of the time the areas can be minimized or removed if there is adequate amount of material on the car.

Thanks Raymond. Positive feedback from forum members like yourself makes all the hard work worth while. ;)

Great work and detailed photos.
I would like to hear that thing come down the street.
Many vette's around me, and a couple of ZR1's.

I know, me diggin again in the shine and show, but this was another one very worthy of bringing up again. This Vette is unbelievable. Awesome job on the detail. It looks fast just sitting there

This is a beautiful car and what you did with that black finish is nothing short of amazing :notworthy: :notworthy: !!

Haha! Thanks Steve! It's been about a year since I did this one and the owner actually called me last week and wants me to come by and fluff it up in Jan. Hopefully he has taken better care of it this time! :soldier:
