Getting old sucks...
Did a 4 wheel brake & rotor job on my buddies BMW 5 Series F10. It has the new fangled electronic motor emergency brakes and like 4 different brake malfunction lights - any of which seem to want to light up for various reasons after the DIY`er hangs brakes...
First, everyone that has these electric motor E-brakes just wants an old fashioned E-brake.
Second, you are supposed to use BMW software to retract the E-brake so you can replace the pads (so stoopid)... Anyway, there is a way around it...
So, did the way around it - and then you have to reset a maintenance light through the computer when you complete the brake job... Stoopid again.
Anyway, brake job turned out fine and no idiot lights (which is like a 50/50 gamble if you read BMW forums).
I hate technology for the sake of technology. Give me Bluetooth - that is useful and awesome. Give me cordless tools with brushless motors that rival air tools.
Maybe I`m becoming an old fart...
But I hate electronic E brakes... I hate cars where you don`t put a key in the ignition.... I hate having to reset a computer because you do a brake job....
I hate TPMS that tell you a tire is going flat every time the weather changes.... I hate cars with no oil dipstick where you have to look at a screen to check your oil.... I hate it that you just can`t replace a battery on a newer BMW - you have to program the computer for it...
I couldn`t even figure out how to get this new BMW from park to drive without being shown.
Most of all, I hate that the newer the car is - the more of a PIA it is to jack up and place a jack stand under... it`s like they are trying to extend all the plastic to under the car...
I hate that it`s 4 days after doing this brake job and my legs are still killing me from bending over and kneeling...
Old fart rant...
