Random thoughts thread

I find the issue of (genuine) Conscientious Objectors to be a bit complicated. If somebody *really* believes that their religion utterly forbids the taking of another`s life or even contributing to it indirectly...well, defying one`s religion can be a big deal given that person`s Worldview.

Are there allowances for such beliefs, like....some MOS or Service Alternative that can accommodate such beliefs so that person could still Serve without violating their beliefs? I simply don`t know about such stuff...

Military court claims power to decide ‘importance’ of religion

Saw this ad on fb and thought, `this is probably how Ron mixes his wash bucket`, lol (minus the brand of course)

Needs more soap, huh?

Beliefs are too easy to fake and certainly impossible to be sure that a person actually holds a certain belief. The draft was not America at its finest, but I understand our leaders thought they had no choice. We have to follow our leaders(right or wrong) or society as a whole could fail. Only history knows who was right in the end. We can`t pick and choose which laws to follow, so why does a persons belief system have anything to do with anything? The needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few as Mr. Spock so eloquently stated. But we could also get into lawful and unlawful orders that soldiers have to deal with. The old "my beliefs trump your beliefs" thing can be a hot nasty mess that no one will ever figure out. We could have a never ending discussion on this stuff. Great fodder for the interweb.

2 words:

Common courtesy.

Re the discussion of Faith, "needs of the many vs. the needs of the few", unquestioningly following a leader`s orders, etc. etc. ....there are some subjects upon which some people are *NEVER* gonna agree and in some of those subjects IMO there can simply be no objective basis for opinion- it`s simply subjective (nothing wrong with that) and different subjects are...well, different. When the best we can go is agree-to-disagree, I think I`m gonna start just letting the matter drop.

I want to clarify my comment. What I meant or tried to say is that we now have a lack of common courtesy. People seem to think their wants and desires are more important than someone elses.

My comment was in no way directed at you.

Ronkh- Copy that, and mine wasn`t directed at you either.

And I agree 100% (note that I never say "110%"...if I did this would qualify) about Common Courtesy.

[DELETED rant about how discourteous behavior used to get one killed and some of us still think that way...]

Mmmm... Gummy Bears.

supervisor brings me bag of gummi bears with a smirk on his face.. I said... `Cat[astrophe] duty again, huh?` "yup" - `ok well you know I have two days off work (mon/tue) and i`m booked those days(he knows I run a business too)`

"no problem, we just need you here tomorrow" -- I had conditionally had that day off but I guess that`s what conditionally means, haha

I told him a 6 pack would have been more appreciated

All I wanted was a lazy weekend. Yea, uh, didn`t happen. There has been some venting issues in the plumbing (gurgling when you flush the thunder bucket) and then the lavatory sink clogged completely up. Ok, no problem, I`ll run my snake through it. Nope. Decided it`s not worth trying to clean all that out just for it to catch on the galvanized fittings a month from now.

Tee to the vent:

Where the lavatory connected:

Fixed in place:

Owner is getting off cheap, only $40 worth of fittings. Going to take it off the rent; my labor is free. No more venting issues and a free running sink. The purple primer is required by code in case anybody was wondering. I have a strange feeling the tub drain is next...

Any of you Floridians been to the Orlando Cars & Coffee? While my car isn`t anything special, I`m thinking of checking it out next month but I`m not sure what to expect or what kind of atmosphere it is. I`d like to bring my son if possible.

From what I understand, it`s a very good one.
