Ran into some more *SOFT* GM paint *56K* No way

Bence- One of the things I like so much about the PI-III MG is that what you see really is what you get. Too bad they quit making it :(

ebpcivicsi- Another nice save :xyxthumbs That MG/MP combo is coming in handy, huh?

Ever try using the MG with the Cyclo white polishing pads? Just a thought, haven't tried it myself.

You and Anthony keep making me think that a few of the HT products might be handy to have on hand...

I don't have any white pads. :( Are they lighter cut than the green? Who makes them, LC or cyclo?

I keep thinking that I don't use my cyclo enough (mainly because I use #80 a lot which works so much better via PC) and I think partly it's because my selection of pads is limited. I have 12 orange pads and 12 green pads. The green pads have blue velcro and there is a border of green foam, where the orange pads have velcro that covers the entire back. The green pads delaminate after every use, I am now down to about 6 pads that I can use. The rest of the pads need to be "reglued." The orange pads are bulldog tough, but I don't really use them that often as I do most of my correction via rotary.

Any suggestions on pads? I am pleased with the cut of the green cyclo pads, but not with their poor durability. If the white pads are more durable with less or about the same cut, that would be ideal.

I hear there was a bad batch of Cyclo pads, sounds like you got a bunch of 'em. I also hear that the new ones don't delaminate/lose their velcro so now might be a good time to restock.

While you're at it, get some of the white Cyclo brand pads. They call 'em "finishing" but they'll work OK for light polishing with products that don't load up pads badly (sure wouldn't try 'em with #80 for instance). They're not ultra-soft/low-PPI like normal "finishing pads" but they still work OK for me *as* finishing pads too. When used with LSPs they last forever, I'm still applying #16 with a set that's maybe 10 years old!

It was the white Cyclo brand pads that I used with 1Z Pro MP when I did the burnishing on the S8.

Check that the white pads aren't contaminated with velcro bits, and clean them off/out if they are before you use them. I'm told they've solved this problem but it's been a big hassle for me ever since they first came out with the velcro-backed pads.

I keep saying "I hear" and "I'm told" because I bought a bunch of pads right before I got my wash technique scienced out. I hardly ever polish any more, so I don't go through pads the way I used to.

There are a lot of other 4" pads out there these days, check out Winner's Circle and..uhm...maybe CMA (IIRC, big "if"). I just stick with the Cyclo pads, but then I'm not faced with all the different challenges that you are either.

And yeah, some products just work better by PC than they do by Cyclo- #80, AIO, and others I'm not thinking of.

OK great, yeah I see a lot of venders carrying them, but I like to support top of the line since they have given me such stellar customer service. I will probably pick up a dozen or so of the white pads when I restock. I will also ask about the green pad delamination issue. Thanks for the info, I appreciate that. :xyxthumbs

AIO via cyclo, wow I couldn't even get it to come off of the paint. :D

BTW, I mean to thank you everytime that I use the 3M MG/1Z MP combo, it has really saved my butt a few times now. Thank you for sharing that combo.

Yeah, I like to send business Irene's way whenever I can too.

You're more than welcome regarding the MG/MP combo; it's gratifying that I could be of assistance to a detailer of your caliber. The makeovers you do leave me just shaking my head over some of our vehicles where I'm afraid to do serious correction, fearing for their thin paint (I know my limitations ;) ). The way you're able to balance the risk/reward just impresses the [noun] out of me. Gee, aren't *we* the mutual-admiration society :o

Very nice work EBP......as usual!

I have some Propel 4" pads on the way for my cyclo. I'll let you know how they work out. I will say now that I have to agree that you would probably like the Cyclo white pads. I have a set that I got with my Cyclo and they are great. Little softer than the green pads but they still won't lay over when applying some pressure and moving the tool around.

In the end, I wouldn't worry about pads. Your work is very impressive. BTW, nice job on your new beater...

I am laughing out loud at my desk over the "mutual-admiration society." :D

O4cobra, thanks man!! My beater is serving me quite well, hopefully she'll stick around until I decide to pull the trigger on the new 07 SI sedan....trying to decide on the color now. :D
