Raising Funds?

Anyone have any hints for rasing capital for a new detail business? Was thinking of going mobile but just found the prime real estate for sale on the main strip zoned and all. The traffic will be great.

Any help would be nice.

Starting a business isn't really 'fund rasising' territory. You either have the capital or you don't. If you don't then you need to apply for loans from the SBA or for grants from the governement. I would probably suggest starting as a mobile business first and then see what happens. Just go in with your eyes open. The latest statistics from the Small Business Administration (SBA) show that "two-thirds of new employer establishments survive at lease two years, and 44 percent survive at least four years." This is a far cry from the previous long-held belief that 50 percent of businesses fail in the first year and 95 percent fail within five years. So chances are getting better that your business with thrive, but you need to be sure you can survive that first two years.

Bikini car wash at a local church parking lot.
If you don't get enough cash, you'll probably find the right investor--crazy, twisted, and not thinking quite straight.

theres always the loan from a bank, also what you could do is start doing some jobs on the wknd in you back yard or w.e. Take all the money that yu made off the job for example you charge 200, 200 goes in an account. do 5 jobs you have a grand right there, replenish needed suplies and you have some money left over, this procces may take a while but its the easist way, you will be supprised how fast the money grows. Good luck with the fund hunting

P.S. you could always find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow

Yeah, car wash fund raisers are good for a couple hundred bucks, but to start a business you need a couple ten thousand dollar stacks.

Thanks for the feedback I think I will try that out.

I have some saved but a couple ten thousand dollar stacks isn't what I do have saved :D

I'm just wanting to fix the place up some and get the signage which here in florida is expensive.

I am so on the fence for taking my business into an actual building. I have been mobile now for about 3 years (this last year was the only full time year). I know that it will happen one of these days but to have to support the overhead for rent and utilities is something that I am just not interested in at this time. But liek I said before I have a business plan and it does involve me having a shop that will cater to the Auto Appearance clientel.

Where in Fl?

Fixing the place up could be expensive all by itself. Unless it was formerly a detail shop then you are going to be looking at some serious overhead to do what you want to do. EPA standards are tough on where your water ends up going and you may have to invest significant amounts of money in plumbing to make sure you aren't contaminating anything with your drain system. You aren't going to be able to raise the kind of money you need for this project in any short amount of time if you intend on paying cash. You need to either look for investors or start applying for loans. You are looking at a significant investment of literally tens of thousands of dollars if you are looking at converting a building into a detail shop. That isn't even considering the upfront cost of purchasing the real estate and the overhead in keeping it running. I would definitely suggest starting a thriving mobile business and then going from there unless you already have $50K that you want to invest into the business on top of your SBA loans.

My fixed location start up and supplies, including a dealership and minor renos, signage, start up ads, etc., was about $32k. Renos could double that.

Yes a store front is a major investment. not to mention the accounting
headaches of employees and ionsurance.

I'm not trying to discourage you at all . JMO. I really think that mobile is the way to go .

have you tried looking for a business partner ?

Thanks. I think that it will be a better idea to go mobile first, although the truth hurts a little. I guess in the mean while I could work on a business plan and my credit at the same time, get some clientele ans what not.

Thanks again for the feedback I'll keep you posted on how things go. Anyone have any good ideas on where to get a nice trailer from BESIDES rightlooks?

We have a successful carwash and detail buisness in the area and has been their 8 yrs that i know of,in the summer or winter month's depending on the snow it is and hour or more to get in. Now that said 3 more came up all within 3 miles east of their, 1 went out of buisness within 2 years,2nd gone within a year, third the guy sold the buisnesss a little over 6 months to another buyer.

The one that has been in buisness has invested $18,00 just for drainage and a hecka of lot more.he has some great employees that show up for work everyday on time. IMHO the others didn't last because they couldn't afford to renovate and they didn't have steady employee's and you coudn't count on them to be open on a slow day or if their was rain in the forcast. When the 2 who failed where closed the one down the street was always open and on time .the only time they closed is if the weather was definately rain throughout the day.BTW 5 years later they opened a 2nd buisness and this was is as busy..

Think and plan this out ,if one thing i learned from this forum is their is a lotta of people with a lot of experience and knowledge here, and they know their sh*t..

P.M. me with your contact info, I have a used Trailer from Detrailers for sale. It is in great shape, All you need are some supplies and it will be ready to go.
I tried to post some pics here at detail city but for some reason they keep failing to post.
