Can some of you explain your application method for tires with Raised white letters. How do you keep the letters white? When I run the applicator over the lettering it tends to darken the letters. I use BF Tire Gel. Should I be going to a spray application for these ?

Easy, once you've cleaned them..I use a brush with some APC and brush the letter to get all the dirt off. Then head for a auto parts store, they sell a white grease pencil that you apply to the letters, this will fill in the cracks and bring back the letters to new looking. Your going to reapply time to time but that's how I did it back when raised white letters was the rage for tires 60 and 70's

Let me add that you need to work around the letters if you are using a applicator or dress the tire first then apply the grease pencil

I have those dang things on my '09 Grand Cherokee, and had the same issues you speak of, until I started using Tuf-Shine products. They sell a cleaner for the entire tire and letters, then you put on their clear coating on the white letters first, let it dry, do a 2nd coat, let it dry, and then do the surrounding black part of the tires.
If you hit the rwl's by accident its no problem because you sealed them beforehand, so they wont stain. The clearcoat product lasts a long time on both surfaces and is not greasy, etc., at all. Their tire brush is really great and they sell a couple of different sponges that are really great too.

i use meguiars super degreaser to clean my letters and tires with a stiff bristle brush. dry them then spray with meguiars hyper dressing 3:1. makes em pretty glossy which i like but if thats not your cup of tea then you can dilute more if you wish.

Once I get them cleaned per some of the above methods, I apply Tuf Shine tire coating and they stay white so much longer. I use this method on a Limo with huge white walls, they use to turn yellow or grey in a few short weeks. With the Tuf Shine Tire Shine, they go almost a year before I had to deep clean the walls.

Cleaning out your applicator after every use really helps not darken them then you spread you tire dressing over them. I like blech white and Amazing roll off for white letters as well.

I may have to pick up the tuf shine, once I use up the gallons of tire dressings I have!

i just dress the whole tire and i will take a towel to the tire afterwards, that will remove the dark streaks from the lettering.
