Rain-X "ultra wax" and wheel protectant...autozone clearance

Well, I walked in today with my friend (she wanted some car shampoo and a wash mit). I looked in the clearance bin in front and found Rain-X wax and wheel protectant for $1 a piece.

Now normally if I was spending $6 on wax this wouldn't be my first choice but this stuff intrigued me at $1. It smells fairly solventy so I can't imagine it's non-cleaning. May be something good to use on my mom and dad's car as a one step.

We shall see.

I don't really know what the wheel protectant is. heh.

I just wiped down the top of the washer and put a line of sharpie permanant marker on it.

It failed miserably. Within 2 passes it dissolved the marker. Meh. Smells strong. My brother just came home and asked what smells like solvent. :o

I did spray it with the water bottle i had there and it beads up nicely. Hm. Wonder how durable it is.

I used it once or twice on my parents car. Not too bad actually. Lasts a couple months, on and off easily, doesnt leave nasty smudges that i can tell. Not a bad deal for a buck...

A good one step for engine bay, door jambs, etc. maybe?

I've also found cleaner waxes to be very nice for rims. No matter what I use to clean my rims, using a cleaner wax afterwards always gets them even cleaner. And they leave behind a protective layer. For the more dedicated, a fine sealant could be used afterwards.
