Rain Stains

Hi guys,

after it rains, my car gets light brown colored spots all over. My car is black. Is this normal? as it really looks as if something got mixed with rain water.

Thanks in advance!

:D

What kind of environment are you in? I know when it rains around me, all sorts of stuff gets into the water as it falls. Dust and pine pollen are big headaches for me. The rain just seems to pull it out of the air and onto my car. Also, if there was any dust or dirt on the car, the raindrops seem to collect it. A hassle? Yes...but I would say it's normal. Just don't let it sit long on the car, as you may get some etching in the finish....who knows what else is floating around that Chicago air!

Dude,

you are right, it could be dust. Besides iam not sure what is really mixed with the chicago air anyways!

Same thing with me, and every other black car I see around here (Philly).

When I leave my car outside, and it rains, if it dries while its on the hood it gets all spotted, but it all washes off.

If I take my wet car into the garage sometimes it spots up, sometimes it doesn't (wellit still spots, but not the brown things you described)

Could this be the sort of acid-rain damage that was discussed in a thread this morning? Take a look here -- perhaps especially Accumulator and bretfraz's comments about light brown "rust blooms" due to acid rain damage. Me, I've never seen this, nor dealt with the ABC system, but your question just made me think of that earlier discussion.

I've seen these light brown spots on my vehicles too and they

seem to appear when the pollen counts are high in my area.

I've seen this stuff accumulate on a freshly washed vehicle even.

I'm sure it's on everything, but shows up best on a shiny car's paint.

I don't have a garage, so all I've been able to do is keep my

vehicles super slick so it blows off when I drive, and also be very

diligent about my daily california duster and QD treatment.

The spots after a rain shower are probably mostly dust from the

air as well as some pollen too. The pollen spots are usually

smaller diameter and have a small amount of height to them.

The dust spots are flatter and larger diameter. I don't let them

last long enough to take pics of them otherwise I'd post some

to help determine what it is we're all talking about. Just my .02

cents worth...hope it helps.:)
