Rain Rain Go Away!!!!!

If you live in the NE, you've either had scorching heat/humidity, or non stop thunderstorms over the past week. I guess it's better than salt & snow :)

We had a break in the weather for a few hours today, so I took advantage of it and cleaned up our rides.

Wash: EO & foam gun. They have buy one get one free in our area, and I have to admit, this isn't a bad car wash.

Dress: Z16 on the tires & trim, NL on the wells.

Paint/Glass/Lights: Dried 90% using the leaf blower and about an ounce of Z6 & Cobra WW Drying towel. Since the coast was clear, I decided to apply a coat of Z5Pro (1oz Z5Pro/1 trigger of Z8 mixed -i.e Z58 mix), final wipe down with Z8.

I had to take pictures, because it's supposed to rain the next umpteen million days in a row (LOL).

Here are the afters about 10 minutes before.....

you guessed it, more rain!!!!

Hi MGM, tell me about it. Nice Rides! I am also form N.E. "Massachusetts" and am getting pretty sick of this rain. I am taking delivery on my New Car (2006 Hyundai Azera, Black with Beige Leather) tomorrow and was looking forward to detailing it but it looks like I am going to have to wait awhile. I hate picking up a New Car in the rain. JoeD

I cleaned mine up on Thursday, but it's just been sitting/beading since.


How long do you typically take for that regimen?
 
I hear you on that rain thing. Yesterday, the clouds broke, and I washed the car. It's been pouring for 5 days, broke Saturday, poured today at my car show, and it's supposed to keep going through next Monday. My Edge Pads and Polishes are coming tomorrow too! :mad:

Anyway, Nice Job. I love the New Cadillacs.

On average it takes 60-90 minutes, which is probably like a 1/2 hour for you :).

After the wash & blow dry, I apply the Z5/Z8 on slightly damp paint. While it's setting up I wipe down the jams, interior, vac, & dress the tires/wells.

IMO, the additional time = the time it takes to apply a coat of Z5 (5 min). I don't count the removal time as 'extra' because I always QD as part of my drying process.


p.s. -It's STILL raining. At least it looks like we'll have a dry 4th of July!
 
N.E parts should get some Sun by this Friday. I cant friggin belive it, 1 straight week of rain/shower :(
 
I saw some of the rain you guys on the east coast are getting, I wish could could trade out a few days of our dry with you. We are sitting in an official severe drought conditions currently. So much that the ability to do driveway washes, which are currently restricted to two designated days per week, may go away completely.

mgm2003, what are the performance/aesthetic characteristics exist in Z-16 that you choose it over NL, which you are using in your wheel wells?

Do you use NL for any other applications?

Have you tried PB's BnB? How did it compare to Z-16?
 
This rain is killing me!!! I had to piss away $400 worth of regular customer's this past weekend due to rain, and I may have to postpone another $340 tomorrow if the weather still stinks!!:mad: Getting a shop is looking even more tempting right now. :D

Mr. Clean. I've only used Z16 on my tires a few times, and so far I've been impressed with the durability. After a few days of driving in the rain, my tires show no signs of browning. 1 trigger pull per tire on an EO applicator does the trick. I'm sure Z16 would fit the bill on the wells too, but I'm reserving it for the tires and interior plastic.

That said, I like BnB and NL on tires/wells too. They are top notch dressings in my book. I like NL (or BnB) on the wells, because it cuts well (I've been using 4:1), and applies a very even looking coat.

If I had to pick one brand over the other, I'd probably stick with Poorboys for a few reasons:

-I've used it for a few years and it's been a solid performer.

-You can buy it by the gallon / 5 gallon, which saves $$.
 
mgm2003, Thanks. I agree with your PB's product assessments. I also have a relatively long term (04/03) track record with those products. I really like BnB for exterior applications. At this point I haven't found a superior product for the wheel wells. Though I've used NL on tires, I normally reserve it for the interior. I've diluted BnB a couple of times, but normally end up using it at its full strength dilution.

I was just curious, about your use of Z16 for tires and NL for wells. I normally associate both products with interior usage.
 
Western Massachusetts has gotten 31 days with rain since end of April...some parts of Eastern mass. have gotten 10 inches in 2 days....We are still looking at the next 5 days with rain or showers....clearing by the 4th of July...I still need to use 4WD to get up my road and driveway...wash outs galore...but better than high 90's and Humid..hate that..hi 70's and dry is Ideal...lol
