rail dust

Hoping for a sunny day
I read somewhere about using a chemical application to remove rail dust. Can anyone comment on this? Seems around here we all use clay to get this job done.

Hey RT

I use clay for rail dust mostly on all new cars that I do. I've found that few people even know what it is. So I printed out some stuf from the web so that they can see that I'm not smoking some thing when I talk about it.:D

I read about the chemical cleaners but putting acid on paint or clearcoat just doesn't seem like such a great thing. :doh

The chemistry behind it makes sense though. Why exposure yourself and a beautiful car to harsh chems when clay and polish do it just fine? :hah

I've used clay with QD spary and it takes it off right away. Also rail dust is not on all the cart its mainly on the bumpers and top of the car. Its little bits of metal that settle on the top while in transit

I have used both products on rail dust and other fall out materials. I have to say that clay is by far the most effective and safest way to go about it. Chemicals may wash down on chrome or plastic surfaces and permanantly etch them...have had it happen...all hail the clay!:mohawk

I use the clay and like it. I was just wondering about the chemical process and if it is any better than clay.

I'll go out on a limb and say your answer is "no".
Claying leaves the car feeling smooth as glass and removes all fallout/debris unseen. You are going to polish anyways, so it saves time as well.
