Quick "Z" question...

I currently apply one coat of Z-AIO followed by one coat of Z-2Pro.

Will the addition of a second coat of Z-2Pro cause the sealant to last for a noticeably longer time?

I just completed this process on one of my vehicles and hope the will sealant make it through the winter (with regular hand washings and Z-8). I don't want to waste time or product if a second Z-2 coat won't make a noticeable difference in longevity.

Are you using z7 to wash? If so, you should not wear down the sealant with regular washing. Just don't use dawn! I don't think the extra coat will give you much in durability, but it will increase the depth of the shine... Using the z8 will add some polymer, but not as much as adding a coat of z2.

Are you talking about doing two coats on the same day? May not be a huge benefit from that, although doing a second coat for even coverage never hurts. If you want to do multiple coats in one day, ZFX is recommended.

If you're talking about doing a second application a week or two or a month later, then yes, it's going to help with longevity. Just make sure you wash with Z-7 or QD with Z-6 before application.

I always use a 2nd layer with sealants, partly to make sure I got 100% decent coverage and also to lock in the first layer. I 'think' it makes sense that a layer of product is now protecting your base layer, so durability 'should' be better...

But as you're using Z-AIO I think you're already effectively dong 2 layers of sealant so might not see much difference. If you're topping with Z-8 anyway you're continually adding more protection...

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, I was talking about adding a second coat of Z-2 during the same time as the first coat, not weeks or months later.

So it sounds like the consensus is that adding a second coat of Z-2 (in addition to the Z-AIO base) will:

1) help ensure complete coverage, and

2) add a marginal amount of life to the sealant versus just one coat.

Based on this feedback, I don't think I will add a second coat at this time. I apply Zaino more liberally than I should, so I'm fairly certain that I'm getting complete coverage. And it doesn't sound like the additional benefits of immediately adding a second coat are worth the time and product costs to me.

On another note, I use Meguires Gold Class car wash, not Z-7. Is this OK? Will using GC shorten the life of my Zaino protection?

One layer of ZAIO topped with one layer of Z2pro is plenty. Top with Z8 occasionally to boost depth and richness, if you have it.

I used to be all hyped up layering 3+ coats, but I never see anything different if I used 1 or 2 coats.

Z-AIO, and the 2nd extra coat is fine to ensure coverage of Z-2p.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just to clarify, when you said you "never see anything different" with 3+ coats, do you mean:

- The look/shine/reflectivity is the same, OR

- You don't experience any additional protection/longevity from the extra coats

I don't care much about the "look" of multiple coats, but I would consider adding extra coats if it resulted in a longer-lasting protection.

You probably won't notice any difference in shine between 2 or 3 coats. Theoretically 3 coats should be more durable than 2.

I don't think you could tell any difference with the 2nd coat. Not in looks or durability.

A former member here claimed that the second coat did increase durability according to his testing. Unlike most waxes, Zaino can layer.

Well, I guess the only way to find out whether an additional layer will add durability is to try it out myself!

On a side note, I applied one coat each of Z-AIO and Z-2pro to both of my vehicles in early spring, and it appears that the sealant is still offering protection. In fact, my neighbor recently saw me hosing down the car just before it's weekly wash and said, "Wow, look at that beading. It looks like a car wax commercial."

I think the last time I applied a Z polish was June. I got lazy over the summer, and on top of that it rained almost everyday. When I did have the oppurtunity to wash, I used Z-CS to add some protection, but mostly used Z-6.

I can tell you that when Tropical Storm Fay came along in Aug, my car was outside during the entire storm (3 long days) during non stop heavy rain. The car was still beading, but I can tell that it was not tight as before.

But anyway... my car is due for some polishing and a coat of Z-AIO and Z-5.

How long does it take you to apply and remove a coat of Z2? If you are using all that product in one single coat, use the same amount (or less) in 2-3 coats. For me, 1 oz of Z2 with ZFX will coat most 4-door sedans at least twice. Applied that thin, it's a breeze, even after 6-8 hours of preparation, to remove the dried Z2.
