First I'd like to say thanks to Jason for convincing me to get a PC 7424. I figured if it was half as good as the talk about it then it would be worth trying out. Turns out it is more than I had imagined. :)



I know some of these questions have been asked but my searches ended up blank, so here goes:



1) What should I use to clean the pads after use?



2) What pads are best used with which products?



3) Is it preferrable to remove product by hand or with the machine (I got the viper microfiber bonnets from CMA) ?



Any other useful tips/tricks would be most appreciated.

I just got my PC also. I used Zaino Glass Polish on the windshield with the white pad that came with the PC. Results were great. Washed the pad with water and soap but I'm sure it didn't all come out. I've been told to keep a seperate pad for each product especially wax and polishes.



As for removing products, most people have said that they remove by hand. I did however, just use the MF bonnet with some Crystal Mist and buffed up the car. It took about 5 minutes, same as QD by hand, but the results are way better! The car was just washed, so that I didn't worry about dirt swirls. I will post pics as soon as I d/l them to the puter.

The wet look is Klasse AIO, 3 SG, 1 Souveran and a Crystal Mist buff with the MF and a PC.

Just another pic. I think this shows how the Klasse does darken the already dark green metalic paint, but I like that in this case.

The Mustang look fantastic! Great job! Another reason why I tune into the Forum every night! That's what a car REALLY is supposed to look like! Enjoy!
 
I clean the pads in the sink with blue dawn and warm water. I agitate them and just let them sit for a few hours. I then come back and rinse several times in warm water then several times in cool water. I then air dry. This is for the CMA pads without backing plate.



As for pad usage, a polish, like 3M's stuff with yellow cutting pad, Klasse AIO and light polishes with white polishing pad, and Klasse Sg with finishing pad, but only sometimes because I can do it by hand just as well and maybe a little faster with less wasted electricity.

To those with the pads from CMA, do you clean after every use?



I'm like a kid with a new toy, the shipment from CoastalTools got here today right before work, so when I came home on my lunch hour I quickly cleaned the hood of the wife's minivan and used the yellow pad with some 3M fine cut compound to tackle those light scratches and swirls! What a difference it made! Then I followed up with some IHG and sealed it with a layer of Blitz!! Can't wait to do the rest of the van!



Thanks for the replies bigboyhf and Jason, that's how I was going to clean them but I wanted to hear from those with experience.
 
I'm not sure if I have pics of the Mustang after the Klasse but before the Souveran (I'll check). There is a very big difference in my perception. Before the wax, it was extremely reflective, but lacked the wet depth that it has now. I did my Steel Gray 330i same way and it is not quite as dark, so the difference is less striking, but definitely there. Worthwhile.

on a very cool car. Good job! I like the way the firing order of a Mustang sounds. Reminds me of a Harley.



For those who care, the reason a Harley sounds the way it does is because both pistons fire at the same time.
 
Thats how I clean my pads after every use.



If you don't clean them, the polish will dry out and degrade the pad which means you have to spend more money to buy new ones.



So, clean them after every use or when they get all gunked up.
 
These are the pics of the Mustang with Klasse only. Did not have the PC at the time so it was all done by hand.
 
Love the Porter Cable, here's my first attempt on the week-end using it to machine polish only:



I use warm water to clean the polish pads when finished, squeeze them til they bleed clear water again. Waxed by hand.
 
Nice bimmer! I thought it was the same color as mine (Steel Gray) until I read that it was black. It's amazing how the reflection changes the way you perceive the color, especially with well polished black cars. Good work with the PC! After spending hundreds of dollars on wax's and stuff, I don't know why I waited so long to pic up my PC. :up Which products did you use to get that shine??

Griots Garage products, cheaper than Zaino ounce for ounce but it is carnauba based, apparently the Zaino's last longer, but this car is garaged from home and at work, so carnauba works for me.
 
can be washed in the dishwasher. After washing them by hand I then put them into the empty dishwasher on the light setting for china and "air dry" only. They come out clean and ready for use again.



Just make sure that you put them on the upper tray to keep them safe.



I lable each of them.



Another thing I do that some others may or may not do is to store the pads in freezer zip-lock bags when not being used. I find this keeps them free of dust, dirt and whatever else seems to find it's way onto a great finish of a car!!!
 
when it about time for me to do a routine tire check for balancing & alignment... preparing for Chinese new year home exodus...came to realized my tires is on the warning mark....
quick clean with APC & brushes off the wheels...otherwise
i cant tell them i am a car detailer.....sad to see my clear coat on the wheels is peeling off.... too much of apc with hard scrubs....:devil:

I had a quick wash,:detailer:
& quick wax & sealing the wheels....just when...stand back & take a look to admire...lets give it a whole wash
that is already 11.00pm & literally hand buff the whole car with Meguiars M 205 & Wax by NXT 2.0 + Seal with Meguiars M135 sealant & the very next morning...Hand buff Meguiars Gold class & Seal with Meguiars M135 sealant

Wash + Dry
Wheel - wash dry & wax with NXT 2.0

Car body -
Wash + Dry
Meguiars M205 - hand polish
Meguairs NXT 2.0 - hand buff
Meguairs M135 Sealant
8 hours later
