Quick advice on tires

I think I am going to abandon the "tire shine" products I've been using. Only thing I have used is auto parts products...Eagle One, Armor All Tire, etc. This stuff can't be good for the tires. They just look like crap after awhile if you don't keep applying it. What is a safe product to use to just clean the tires and keep them looking decent? I'm not looking for gloss or shine. Thanks.
 
Most people here do you Armor All as it is water based. How do you figure none of those products are good?
 
Just regular armor all or armor all tire formula? The stuff I had been using seemed to be making the sidewalls dryout real bit and started to show signs of causing a little bit of cracking..

If the tires are drying out and cracking I would think you have bad tires. What type of tirea nd how old are they?

i hear yea....i too once used armour all no more for me again my prefernce...i used it for interior to it was not the look i was looking for and too greasy almost like if you ate fries and wipe your hands on the dash....i often wonder if what it contains that kind of damage or that is dry out your tire and strip the tire...i dont know..there are allot of better product out there in my eyes...you first need to decided do you want a water base or gel/liquid/ other form...a water base is good but it will wash off in the rain or when water contacts it...a gel/liquid form will last longer....once you decided on which one or try a few depending on your budget there is alot of valueable knowledge here in this form and great sponsors hear to help you out...good luck in your decision maybe intime you will get a addicted unless you already are... :chuckle:



by the way what color is your geezer and is it leather or cloth.. i too have the same year and model mine is red milano red i believe with blk leather interior....
 
DJmigs..it's white. Thanks for that article superstring, very helpful. From reading that, it sounds like my problem might be my driving habits..that is, I only drive about 3-5K miles per year. My car is a 96 model and only has 65K miles on it. From what the article said, because of this, the microwaxes that are present throughout the rubber are not able to make it to the sidewall surface, thus the tire can dry out. The article metioned "specialty products" for vehicles that aren't driven much. Any suggestions on one of these products?

I agree w/ you. I use 303: It not only make tires look great, it protects them long term!

Glad you found the articles helpful. Unfortunately, I don't know any "specialty products". Maybe someone else can comment on this, as it certainly sounds like that could be the answer in your situation.
 
303 ain't bad on tyres, doesn't last as long as the latest gels and even autoglym vinyl and rubber care spray lasted longer

Great on fibreglass spoilers though
 
I have applied 303 in the past, then waited a couple days and applied Armor All or some other things over it. 303 is supposed to actually help and protect the tire by soaking in. I usually apply 303, wait a few days, then put an actual dressing on the tire. I consider 303 on tires more of a maintenance thing than an actual dressing. Just my take, it really is an awesome product.
 
McGuire's Hot Shine spray. The nozzle lets you control the spray pattern. Last for weeks. No browning! Just a touch up every couple of weeks. This is a sleeper product (not many people have tried it)
 
I have heard a couple of others say 303 didn't last, but I have found it much more durable than any other type of tire dressing/protectant. What I have found is that it takes a couple applications on my winter tires (Michelin X-Ice) to "take hold," but on my summer tires (Goodyear Eagle F1s) it lasts and lasts after one application. I suspect that different tire compositions have different absorbtion rates--or something like that. But to show how durable 303 is I put it on my old, grey, plastic, mail box almost a year ago and it renewed the deep black color and has maintained it all this time. I just reapplied it a week ago. The mailbox is exposed to the elements 24/7 and is West-facing. This has to be the ultimate test of its effectiveness.
 
Meguiar's Endurance works best for me. It's a purple gel and lasts a long time. For application, I fold a terry washcloth in quarters and apply to the tires pretty liberally. Not enough to run, but enough to get into the sidewall texturing and lettering. Then, I go back with a dry terry and buff off the excess. It leaves the tires with a bit of a gloss, but it's not too shiny. What's nice is that it's readily available at most auto stores.



I've used Endurance for a long time and have found it to have great protective qualities. When I changed out my last tire set, the inner sidewalls had small cracks and other signs of degradation, but the outer sidewalls were smooth and intact.
 
Endurance when I used t about eight years ago would leave a sticky residue and does not last as long as sonus or wolfgang and doesn't have the heat reactive properties of them either



VLRP (old formula) with three coats would last a few months

I've just started trying forever black tire gel mixed with sonus and wolfgang

IMO forever black is over rated. All it does is dry up really quick and leave a matte finish

Mixed with the other two though, the gloss is higher and dry



FB smells like alcohol so not good
 
ive used hot shine and it does produce a nice shine although messy id definitely advise a applicator, 303 does a good job but takes too much to do your tires imo not to mention if you want shine 303 doesnt offer it, makes your tires look new, thats what i ask all my clients, you want original or extra crispy.
 
Westlys bleach does leave a tire NICE AND CLEAN. But I use that as more of a maintainance product. Once every now and then to remove the buildup of tire dressing and grime then go over the tire again with Megs High Endurance
