Quick advice - Gasoline on my car

I searched for this, but didnt really find a satisfactory answer. I'll appreciate any advice you all can give here.

On my car is:

AIO/KSG/KSG/P21S Wax

Some ******* topped off before me and filled the sleeve with gasoline. It didnt come out until I was shaking the nozzle in my inlet trying to get rid of the last drops - then it ran all down the side of my paint. Lots of it.

I went over to the water hose and washed it off the best I could. I then washed the car 2 days later.

I'm just guessing that my wax is gone. What do I need to do to fix this? Do I need to strip that panel and start the process from scratch? Or maybe just do more P21S?

Interestingly enough, the beading on the part that was spilled on is decent. That tells me that something is there. I took care not to rub when I was washing the gas off, so maybe most of it is there?

Thanks in advance! :woot:

My friend had that happen to his Protege (the contest-winning red one) a few days after I finished detailing it. When I next saw it, I did AIO/#16 on that area to clean it back up and protect it.

Whenever I get gas, I always tip the nozzle back, then forward right into my gas filler hole. When it's done pumping, I lift up the hose and tip the nozzle, to get all the gas out. I paid for it right? Might as well take it. Plus you don't have to worry about spilling any gas on the paint.

I always grab on the blue paper towels for windows the have by the pumps and hold it over the nozzle.

Also..take a glass of water and pour down the side, see what kind of difference you notice in protection. We see it alot on bike runs, normally those with AIO just need a wax touch up.

TwoStroke- My guess is that the KSG is still fine, so I'd just redo the P21S. I had a major gas spill on the MPV once (that's why you're supposed to stay at the pump when using the hold-open thing: shutoffs can malfunction :o ) and it didn't do much to my KSG.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I lost track of this thread somehow, sorry for the late post.

One thing about holding the pump is this - When the auto-shutoff snaps the lever, the whole nozzle can come flying out of the hole and bounce off your car. I always hold the nozzle while filling up.

What happened here is that I was shaking the nozzle to get the drips off and a bunch of gas came out of the sleeve. I don't shake anymore.

Thanks for all the advice!

I always grab the part of the hose that hangs beneath the nozzle, and swing it upward, while tilting the nozzle. This allows all the gas to run out. I paid for it right? Why not take it? Plus you always know that there is no gas left in the hose/nozzle that could run out when you take the nozzle out, or when the next person uses it.

Hey now, this is a public forum. No sense talking like that around the kids. :grinno:
