Questions on repeated applications of BFWD

Thanks to Forrest, I was able to order the "3 bars in a jar" clay bar package over the phone with a mothers rep. I'm able to get the bars without repurchasing the whole kit.

The service was great and mothers products have been great to me so far too.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I had a good experience.

Hi guys,

I have used a number of wax/sealants over the years and I my current love affair is with Wet Diamond. I really think it provides the best finish.

The car I use this on is my seldom driven/often admired garage queen. Because I rarely drive the car, I can demand that the car is always perfectly detailed. The BFWD finishes off to a "slickness" that I've never experienced before. However, after a wash or 2, the slickness goes away. I find myself wanting to re-apply sealant at least once a month. Not because it needs it, but because I am obsessive about having a show car for my weekend/fun car.

My question is: Is it wrong to apply sealant to the paint once a month? Will I end up with a buildup of sealer that over time will reverse the trend of perfection and turn it into a cloudy mess?

I've tried the BF spray detailer (the beer) and it finishes nice, but I rather re-seal. The spray is just not the same.

Perhaps, I am using the wrong stuff (I hope not). I dont need something that is so durable. I just love the shine of the BFWD. Is there a less durable wax/sealer, that can be re-applied every month or whenever I feel the slickness is gone?

I have a full bottle of Gloss-it Concourso. Would I be able to "top" that over the BFWD? I've been told the Consourso is not durable at all. Maybe thats the answer?

Thanks, Joe D.

Joe,

I know how you feel. There is nothing better then the finish of BFWD.

However, there is no need to keep re-aplying every month. All you need to do to keep that slick wet looking finish, is use the Black Fire Spray Sealant each time you wash your car. This should keep you car's paint slick and wet looking for many months.

If you like to re-apply every month, just because you enjoy it, and love the fresh look, that is fine. If you do that, you might want to use Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish before you re-apply the BFWD, to get the paint clean enough to accept the sealant.

Good luck.

Hey Barry, hows it going. 1st of all - Thanks for your help.
The car never gets that dirty in between washes. Just dusty. I will clay if I have to, but I'd rather not buy another polish and clean the surface before I re-apply the BFWD.

So based on the experience of the folks here, a once a month "topper" of BFWD is OK and wont create a buildup problem?

No, it shouldn't be a problem. I would still try the Spray Sealant in between washes though. The spray is made up of the same ingrediants as the BFWD, so it is generally used as a way to bring the paint back to that just sealed look and feel.

If your fond of slickness like I do...just use FK425 after a wash or use as a QD. Nothing is slicker than FK425 IMO.

You'll be fine. You won't hurt the car. Unless you're applying the stuff with a brick...
I don't know if you'll improve the looks of the car or not if you apply every month but you definitely won't hurt it.

Hey Joe... I'm well known around these parts as a Sealant Layering Fanatic!!!

I often tell a story about applying a coat of Zaino every Friday night, just before the Saturday car show... I did this on my 2001 GTP for almost 5 years! (Yes, there is something wrong with me.:cornut:) The true definition of OVERKILL!:banghead:

I later discovered Z8 to bring back the slickness. Slickest spray I've ever used.

For my Corvettes, I polish in the spring and apply 3 coats of sealant (either BFWD or Z5P), maintain with Z8 weekly, and apply another layer of sealant every couple months just for the fun of it!

Red - NO BRICKS!!
As for improving the looks, I didnt think it would. I just want to maintain what is there.
Thanks for your help! Joe D.

Bill, As for you for being well known around here.. You are actually one of the main reasons I joined this forum. I was so glad to see you chime in. Thanks, I appreciate it.

I am going to pickup a bottle of Z8. Awesome. I'll probably still apply the BFWD (maybe every 2 months).

Again, thanks everyone for your help. This is a great place. It actually helps me appreciate my car more. Sort of turns it into a hobby!

I use Finish Kare 425 after washes to restore BWD slickness. The two products seem to work very well together.

But if you want to add monthly layers of BWD, I'd say go for it. After all, what's the worst that can happen? If you find that your fears are realized and the finish becomes cloudy (has this ever happened to anyone applying multiplying sealant layers?), then you can always just use a paint cleaner or AIO to completely remove the protectant and apply a fresh base layer or two of BWD.

Go for it!
