Question to people with mobile detailing businesses.

I am going to open my own mobile detailing business but I need to start small and run it out of the trunk of my car. And I was just wondering if any of you who are in the same boat as me feel that it is unprofessional or have had customers find it odd that you have to you use their water and electrical hook ups? Obviously I will bring my own electrical cord and hose.

We started off with pickups and our own water and elec. A lot of clients we have had in newer richer developments do not yet have full external power/ water so that can be a problem if you ever go to these types of neighborhoods. The only major problem I can see is high end clients and you working out of a car. Not sure what products or equipment you use but I doubt we would be able to store half of our daily used products and euipment in most cars with seats folded down so that might be another problem you face. I wish you luck with the buisness this is one of those things you will enjoy to do :)

You have to consider many things when making the decision of how you will physically operate you business; environment, climate, volume, target market, efficiency, and of course funding. There is nothing wrong with operating out of your trunk, especially when youre new to the game. GSRStillez, ScottWax, AJBarnes, 1 Clean WS6, SpoiledMan (. . . .) all rock the trunk and do some of the best jobs around. While it may be confusing for a tunnel wash victim to see the detailer who is going to fix their vehicle rolls up in an Integra, all that matters is the job you do. Keep your own vehicle immaculate, dress professionally, educate yourself and your clients and work harder than you ever have before. Word will travel faster than you can imagine. M2C-HTH.

edit: That said, you might spring for a little Honda e200U generator to power your polisher/vac/etc to broaden your base.
