I currently have the Klasse twins topped off with some P21S on my '02 Porsche 996TT...
Now that I've acquired a rotary buffer and gotten the hang of it...what is the best way to remove sections or panels of klasse and P21S to repair certain areas of the car. I know about dawn wash...but I'm afraid to use dawn on sections as I know it will drip down the doors and rear fender areas. BTW, I'm planning on removing some med. scratches on the room.
Could I fill up a small spray bottle of dawn and H20 to remove wax and klasse around that area...or how about 50/50 alcohol/h20???
That's what I thought too...but I kind of wondered why people use dawn wash...it's to prep the surface by removing old wax and protectants right? Would I need to do that for my case if it's just certain areas? Sorry for so many questions...just want to make sure I do it right.
Chris Y.- Yeah, there are some of us who DO NOT use Dawn on vehicles we really care about, if only for fear of damaging the rubber seals, etc. The general reasons TO use Dawn are a) it removes most carnaubas (but NOT sealants like Klasse!); b) it removes oils and fillers left by polishes; c) it's a stronger-than-usual cleaner that's especially good on oily messes that rinses off well.
Again, Dawn will NOT remove Klasse. The water alcohol mix (or just straight rubbing alcohol) works well (I've done it) and isn't too aggressive.
But as JGV said, any polish that will remove PAINT (and thus swirls, etc.) will cut through the Klasse just fine. The K is so thin you don't need to worry about it clogging up the pad or anything like that. Heh heh, the rotary will go through that like [insert favorite analogy here]
Did you buy a rotary buffer or a random orbital buffer?
The reaon why I'm asking is the day I meet you I got a good look of your nice looking Porsche. The condition of your Porsche did not look like it needs a rotary. I think a PC would be just fine. With the right product and pad the PC can do about 90-95% what a rotary could do. And most importantly it is a lot safer. I would recommend starting off with a PC and after you get a hang of it then move up to the rotary if necessary. Do you have a car you could practice on first?
By the way, how do you like the Meguiar's Final Detail?
It's my black BMW 745Li that needs some major swirl removal...I spent 45 minutes on the trunk with a PC orbital and it just wasn't cutting out the major swirls (although the smaller ones came out pretty good). I took it down to Hi-Line and talked with one of their consultants about removing the cob webs and towel scratches (before your towels ) and he says a rotary would be a better choice for taking them out. I'm not sure if I'm nitpicking..but man, when I get comments from non-car people about my tiny scratches...it bothers me I'm just going to get the rotary for other cars I plan to work on and I've done some practicing at my friend's shop...and I think I've gotten the hang of it and know the areas to take more caution.
BTW...I need more towels!!! haha I'll e-mail you in a bit!
Oh...FD is some pretty good stuff. A really nice slick finish, but really frutty smelling (almost too frutty for me)...but I just got some QS and will give both a try. Thanks for the sample!!!
I thought the 4Runner is your BABY!!! You maintain the finish so well...I doubt it would even need any work...hehe
It's ok with the 745Li...my Porsche I'd have to think twice about touching it with a rotary.
Ranney...the QS...did it arrive to you only 1/20 full in a gallon jug? Because he sent what look like concentrate and it's only about 1/20 full with the concentrate QS and it says to fill up to the line with tap (I'm waiting to get some distilled & deionized water today). The box was a bit oily on the top and I'm just hoping it will leak out of the jug.
