Question Regarding Paint on 3rd Generation TL

Hey, guys. I know a few people on here own a 3rd generation TL. One of my best friends bought a 2007 TL in White Diamond Pearl, and he's run into a bit of a problem. He thinks the paint on the hood and bumper is too "hard". He said it seems to be very brittle because he has owned the car for 6-7 and he already has several chips in the paint, a couple of which are pretty bad.

Has anyone else experienced this, or is this simply bad luck on his part? Is there anything he can do (Outside of a 3M Clear Bra) to help prevent this??

Thanks, guys.

I have a few chips in mine (2007 WDP) but I dont think the paint is hard. I was able to remove some very light swirls with only PO87MC and a bluepad. This didnt get them all out but it did remove enough to make me happy.

i believe honda paint is commonly accused of being "brittle" or rock chip prone. my TL had no rock chips that i could find from the time i owned it. now, my winter car...the 92 accord...looks like the front was sandblasted. hahahaha

a lot of the problem comes from the owner's driving habits as well. if they are tailgaters or do not actively stay away from trucks on the highway, they are more at risk of things getting kicked up into them.

Thanks for the repsonses, guys!!! Keep them coming.

Any comments about protecting the aforementioned areas? Would layered Collinite help protect against something like this?

No wax or sealent is going to protect any debris coming your way. No matter how much you layer it's not going help. Clear bra is the best bet. That's what sucks about owning a nice car.

Thanks, Macruz19. You were the first person that came to mind on here regarding a 3rd generation TL.

Any idea on pricing for a clear bra for a TL?

TL gets chipped easily. Best thing is the get a repaint, or get a clear bra.

Yeah...what he says!

My 07 TL-S chips extremely easy, and my previous RSX-S chipped just the same. Regardless of how well you take care of it, or what kind of polishes/sealants/waxes you use, it will chip.

Even though the rest of the car looks like this (photo below), the front is already beat up pretty bad after 22K miles...

Thanks, TSC17. I forgot that you were rocking that nice TL-S. That pic is still one of my favorite on this board. If I were getting a new TL (99TL owner currently) it would be exactly like yours...except for maybe the A-SPEC wheels.
