Question layering Klasse SG...

Hi Everyone,

I know most of you here that use Klasse apply several layers of SG to give it the ultimate shine and protection. I was just curious to know what steps do you guys/gals take before applying another coat on top of each other. My main concern is that the surface of the paint is contaminated (feels bumpy) and I don't want to keep layering the SG over contaminated paint. I'm hesitant to use a clay bar because it may just strip the SG and defeat the whole purpose of layering it on. What do I do? Is it safe to layer it on even though the surface feels a bit bumpy? Thanks in advance! :)

If the surface feels bumpy then you should clay it for sure. Claying won't remove all the Klasse so you are pretty safe from that. Before I layer on another coat I just wash and dry the car. Nothing too complicated. I'd stop at around 5 or 6 layers though. Past that and you are in the realm of diminishing returns (you work just as hard as you did when you got results but now nothing is really changing). You shouldn't have to clay more than once or twice a year. If you have to do it more often then that then you probably live in a very poluted area. Your Klasse should survive the clay though. :up

Thanks Jngrbrdman,

I already clayed my car about a couple months ago which is why I was hesitant to clay it again. I do live in a pretty poluted area (Damn L.A. smog!!). I already have 2 coats of SG on my car right now and I think I'm going to shoot for 5 coats total.

So far I've got 2 coats of SG on my ride after 1 coat of AIO. I was of the opinion that all you have to do is wash and apply another layer of SG. Just to be sure I emailed CMA where I bough tthe Klasses system and they promptly replied that yes, thats all you need to do. I highly recommend properautocare.com!!

If washing does not remove the bumps then perhaps you should try AIO on a small area before trying clay.

just my 2 cents.

In my experience, AIO will help on bumps but clay does the job much better. I would suggest just the opposite, and spot claying as needed before using AIO again.

The bumps are dirt and crud in your paint, while it will not get worse like rust or anything you are holding back some shine and alot of slickness. Your best bet is to strip and start over with a cleaner, more shiny and slicker surface.

You can layer over the bumpy surface if you wish.

I just KLASSE'd a white "LIGHTNING" with no problems. I did 3 coats, but I layed them all down in one night and he already has excellent paint. If you had "bumps" there is certainly a problem.

When I first got Klasse I threw on a coat of AIO and 2 coats of SG right off the bat. I was new and all I did was wait 45 minutes before I buffed off the SG before I applied the second coat. I applied another coat the next day and I applied two layers per week for about 2 months. I had so many layers of SG on my car that I lost count. In retrospect I don't think there was that much difference between coat 5 and coat 15. I won't put more than 5 coats on again. On the plus side, I really developed a nack for buffing off SG. I'm a whizz kid at it now. :) I haven't put a coat of SG on a car with less than a 24 hour cure time since that first effort at it. I remember noticing that coat #3 buffed off eaiser than coat #2 so maybe that is one of the reasons you want to let it cure? I dunno. All I know is that Klasse rocks!

How do you get rid of the dust if you wait 24hrs between coats of SG? Cali car duster, QD, or something else? Thanks.
