Question for Zaino Users

After reading the application instructions for Zaino on the Zaino website, it seems that it is difficult to use compared to other products (don't use to much, lightly dampen application with water, then Z-6, before Z-2). For those that use it, is it difficult to apply or do the directions make it seem harder to use than it really is?

:welcome to Autopia!

It may seem confusing, but Zaino is one of the easiest products to apply and remove on the market.

The key is to apply THIN coats. Using Z6 before applying the polishes is optional, but it does help the polish spread better on the surface and increases slickness. You can use Z6 on the pad as well to help the polish spread better.

It is not difficult to apply. Instructions and the names make it complicated. The process is very process orientated. Do the steps as directed. You will find that it works very well. Just take the time to do the steps and see what it can do.

i used zaino for the first time this past weekend. it was not hard at all, but i did spend about 2 days at it doing 5 coats with Z6 in between each. i guess its only this time consuming and labor intensive on the first application. the subsequent applications, doing 1 coat at a time, should be a breeze.

IMO, it *is* a bit of a paint, until you have the process down and figure out how to make it work *for you.*

I would just prep the paint to near perfection, use ZPC as your final polish, Z6 wipe down, then apply three coats of ZFX enabled Z2PRO.

You could also do Z6 wipe downs in between the layers of Z2PRO. I like to finish with an application of Z8, but IMO it's not mandatory.

<----------just getting the feel for the "new" Z products.

It's not as easy as, say, UPP, WG, NXT, etc. in terms of getting your base layer established, but after you do that first layer mixed with ZFX, Z2/Z5 is easier to buff than most other polishes I have tried. You really only need to use this catalyst about once a year, or every 10 coats. I think 10 coats would get you through a year easily (in fact, I would stop at 5, personally). If you kept it up with the Zaino car wash, Z6 and Z8, you'd be set. Doesn't get much easier after that initial step of mixing and shaking.

I use thin coats and a damp applicator for every product I use. It's certainly not difficult or unique.

Zaino (like other products) only needs one coat to work...additional coats are one's choice/option.

If you're detailing correctly, Zaino is really no different than any other product - prep, apply, remove.

Agreed!

I think Sal is just trying to cover the bases the best he can. As mentioned in "The Wax Report", many users out there still shlack on the carnauba and Zaino needs the utmost of a thin coat. I remember the problems the editors from the test had and once cleared up, Zaino came out the winner.

Don't be scared, I find it one of the easiest products to use.

Amen to that!

Would a good way to dampen the applicator be to soak it in water and then wring it out by hand? Then spray a layer of Z-6 on (like some have said)? How much Z-2 should I put on the applicator? Maybe a thin line of Z-2 across the applicator pad?

Damp means 1-2 small squirts of distilled water or Z6. Don't soak it with anything.

Initially, I make an "X" of product across the pad. Once the pad gets primed it will require less and less product to keep going around the vehicle.
