I have seen a lot of the check lists for Check in and upselling recently. And I was wondering if any of you guys had a check list for detailing the car ...

Thanks
Nick

Nick ...I always just had a routine that I followed for every vehicle...stopping to check a list is time consuming when you do it for a living.

I'm with Steve on this one, I do the same process on every car. Anyone that follows a check list is either new at ti which can be a good thing while you learn, or is working for a detail company that wants things done a certain way.

That is just it.

I Thought it would be a nice way to develop either a new more through rutine for my self, along with a way to really help figure out time management.

A lot of times when doing my own car I will finish the detail and then 2hrs later while Im driving down the road notice "oops I forgot to dust the vents"

Maybe I will just make a little list of things for my self! I just thought if someone already had it, it would be nice to see.

Thanks for the help guys

I wrote up a list a while back...printed it...laminated it...lost it! Before I lost it, I think I might have used it 2 or 3 times (got into my own routine and would forget I had the list)! I thought it would help me for the reasons you stated. Though the only thing that has helped me is paying attention to the section of car I'm working on (not jumping around) and doing a final inspection...

If time/consistency is your main worry, why not time yourself on your own vehicle.

Nick.

I thought that a list would be nice to go over with your customer after your done with the detail.

Just think how happy Mr Smith would be to personaly go over your with you.

Its just an idea.

Good luck

Well thats what im saying! I think if when a customer comes to pick up their car they saw that this list is present...along with initials next to each task they would be impressed with the amount of work that was being done for such little money.. kind of gradifying that they can say wow .. they even take the time when the detail is done to make sure everyting is there... kind of a Quality Assurance type thing... .

I wanted the list for my own refrence though. I usually forget to do one thing or another while detialing my car/or friends cars (im not a professional) and its annoying to come back to the car after showering and such to just notice ....oops I forgot to wash the (Fill in most comon thing here)! Plus I think it would help me concentrate on the job at hand!

I think the checklist wouldn't be a bad idea, and yes the customer would be impressed with seeing just how many things are cleaned when having a vehicle detailed. For yourself, within a few weeks or months you'll have your process absolutely memorized, and you can use the checklist as a review when your done.

Nice idea for most customers, but you'll always have those few that love lists and look for things that are'nt on it :doh
