Question for MF guru's

How much better are the 70/30 MF products compared to the 80/20 ones? Most people seem to remark about softness and thickness. I assume a 70/30 will be softer and remain thicker for longer periods? Has anyone tried CG's extra thick towels? They look like a good value.
 
Frankly, since the majority of MFs are 70/30 and even the cheap ones sold at sams, walmart, costco, etc. are 70/30s, I see no reason to even try the 80/20s. The 70/30s work so well and are easy enough to replace that buying anything else just doesn't make sense to me.
 
I wouldn't get to hung up on the technical specs of the MF. 70/30 or 80/20 or even 85/15. The thread counts range to from 220,000 to 90,000 to what ever. I have at least 300 pieces of MF and they very from vendors, thread count, blend, weave, etc . If they work and don't mar the finish I am happy. Just for the record I have plenty of 80/20 MF and they work just fine.
 
I wouldn't get too caught up in the specifications of a MF towel. The best method is just to purchase, test to your liking, and pass judgement on which ones you prefer. :cool:

Slight topic deviation, (sorry) but does the washing process also determine the effectiveness of the MF? Whats a good wash product for MF? This washing/drying , from what I have read about so far is of equal importance as to if the towel is suitable for painted surfaces.:nixweiss I must have 200 of the yellow Costco towels, and so far they are ok... Also I have a collection from PakShak , Cobra towels and others. I dread one day, finally washing away the good properties of my MF after continual misapplication of the wrong cleaning soap.
 
I always wash mine in Woolite. I did try the boiling method one time and it seemed to breathe a little life back in some cheap Wally-world towels. It was done just as a 'shites&giggles' test because I was bored. These towels had already been demoted to wheel towels anyway. What is this magic MF towel wash that is sold anyway? Another case of relabled product? One mistake I will not make again though is to throw a polishing pad in with my towels. It definately left some chemical residue on the towels that was apparent the next time I used them.

I would echo the comments from my fellow autopians regarding not getting too caught up in the specs of microfiber. However, I might be contradicting myself here, but I have observed the following regarding 80/20 or 70/30 when it comes to waffle weaves.





I've noticed that waffles which are 80/20 are just a tad softer and don't hold as much water. The result is a thinner towel which can be rung out easier if needed.



I've noticed that waffles which are 70/30 are not as soft, but hold more water. These towels are thicker.



Which is better? I don't know as both have their place.
