Question: Filling Holes..?

hey i have a question for all you autopians...

currently i have an Acura TL with a spoiler.. and i really want to get rid of it but it will be costly (bondo'ing it and repainting the whole lid)

which got me thinking. i have 5 small holes from where it was bolted into(probably dime/quarter size at most) and i was thinking if it would be possible for me to do the job myself.

i was thinking if i bondoed or filled the hole halfway myself (the trunk lid is probably 1/4 inch thick at most). and then from the top of the bondo to the surface of my trunk lid, i can fill it with Touch up paint, and then wetsand it even and PC it or something, do you think this will work the same as leveling a scratch with touch up paint and how do you think the outcome will be in terms of durability and looks?

anyone have any ideas on how to do this precisely or would my only choice be having it done professionally?

I think a better solution would be to find someone in your area with a TL that would like to trade decklids with you. I am sure there are active Acura boards you could post on to find someone.
 
I would not try and Bondo a 1/4" or larger hole, thats just asking for trouble. Besides thats to nice of a car to do a half hearted job on.
 
Yeah, this isn't something I'd use for a learning experience. Pay somebody who's already done a zillion of them or trade lids with somebody. Heh heh, I did this sort of thing myself back in the day and now that I'm older and smarter I pay people to do it right.

ive been trying to trad eon my board for months with no luck :angry

but yeah, the reason i want to go spoilerless is because i want another spoiler, which is $380 unpainted + $100-200 to paint it... and if i get my holes filled professionally that will run at least 300... so thats $800+ for a new spoiler :scared:

What the guys are doing with the new GTO that they remove the spoiler on is to fill the holes with plastic cap plugs of the proper size. They have some that are smooth on top. They just press in the holes. You can find them at body shop supply stores or sometimes the home supply stores. They then use touchup paint to make them blend in. Not perfect but from a distance hard to detect, and for less than $10 you can't beat it.
 
Heh heh, I can't be too critical about how people plug holes since the Caprice has rubber plugs where the police antennas use to be :o
