Question concerning show car (wash routines)

I have a friend who has a 62 custom t-bird. The car is garaged 24/7 and stored in the winter. I was just talking with him today and showing him some of my WW and MF towels, and he said he has no use for a waffle weave. I asked how he dries his car. Now for some reason his response left me speachless, he said he has never washed it!!

His yearly routine consists of using a California Car Duster to remove dust and then he QD's the car and follows that with his application of product #7 followed by #26.

Does this sound odd to anybody else? Are there any negatives to applying the #7,#26 combo multiple times a year? I'm not sure but are there bonding issues with #7 over #26 over #7over #26 and so on? Any input would be great.

There are few guys over here in car clubs that say they have never washed there cars either, I have done alot off car shows, but not ever washing would really scare me!

I have a garage queen show car that I have not washed with a hose for at least 2 years. If the car is very dirty I will try and use QEW or Spray and Wipe.

Most time I will just use a bucket of water with microfiber towels to just wipe it down.

Then again..I can't remember the last time it was "dirty" :D

My car is a garage queen /show car. Last year I drove it about 1,800 miles. I tried to keep it real clean without washing it because I have real hard water. Black paint and hard water dont mix. I'll tell ya...... even after just a spin around block, stuff kicks up along the skirt, debris and bugs stick to the front end. To make a long story short.........I bought a water softener and washing has been great. I dont see how you can never wash your car even if you drive drive it a little bit. These guys must be marring the hell out of thier cars just using QD.

Unless it goes from a closed trailer to show room floor.:nixweiss

Well I pretty much trailer my car to shows on an open trailer. Like I said if I have to wash it will use QEW instead of spraying water all over. If its dusty I will break out the

S and W.

Last year I put 25 miles on it...:D

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I show my car but do drive it a bit as well.

This topic is interesting. This year I'm going to drive my car a little more and try to enjoy it more. I have learned so much on here that I would like to show it off!:D

I spent so much time last year, detailing and cleaning to just put it back in the garage. Sometimes its hard, the more I put into it the less I want to drive it. I think I have made it into too much of a show piece and I'm afraid to drive it!:(
