Question about the Platinum kit...

I ordered the Platinum Complete kit and I'm wondering if I should also use a polish in my process or if the UPC and UPP are sufficient for my 2002 Taurus. The paint is in good shape, but I'm really looking for the best shine.

Thanks for helping the new kid in town!!

I also baught this kit, and am wondering if UPP and UPC can be applied in the sun, or if the car should be pulled into a garage after being washed to apply the UPP and UPC. Thanks!

Also to take a stab at your question, unless you have a lot of scratches I would not add a polish to the kit. If you have a lot of swirl marks a swirl mark remover might be used, I've heard that UPC cannot deal with a large ammount of swirl marks.
That said I think that I will just be doing a wash/clay/UPC/UPP on my 2 year old red car. I'm hoping it will turn out well, good luck!

There aren't any buffer swirls, but there are the usual light spider webs that you can see under parking lot lights at night. I'd like to take care of those. I'm wondering if UPC will take care of those or if I should use SMR first.

And good luck back to you!!

Thanks,
Chris

Chris R,

My guess is that the UPC won't take care of all the spider webing (swirl marks). However, you can try it, and see what happens. I would try something like Poorboys Pro Polish, or Meguiar's #9 to remove that kind of swirling.

If you're truly looking for the "best shine", get those swirls removed!

Spy_90,

I don't think you want to "apply" the UPC, or UPP in the sun. Idealy, it's always best to apply products to a cool surface.

I think Poorboys SSR1 would be better for the Swirls than his Pro Polish. I used the Polish w/Carnuba and it did not remove many swirls. However with the SSR1 I was able to get out most swirls. I do recommend going with the least aggressive product first.

Okay, you guys convinced me to get those swirls outta there. Now it's time to decide between 3M SMR and Meguiars 9, any thoughts?

So here's my plan of attack:

Wash and dry
Clay
SMR
UPC
UPP
Stand back, admire hard work and enjoy a few cold ones.

Anything anyone would change? How would carnauba look on top of the UPP? Would that be overkill?

Thanks again for all the great tips!!

I have both and always seem to come back to the #9. I think the 3M takes longer to work in or break down if you will. Especially if you are working by hand. I have posted pics of black car I did over the weekend using #9 then UPC, THEN UPP. It is titled "here's how I spent my day"(I think). Good luck.
