Question about swirl removal.

I just have to know if a PC is really recomended for getting swirls out. Does it really save that much time and effort instead of doing it by hand? Do you think for a business a PC would be that much more helpful? I'm new at this and have never used one before. I'm just looking for any advice from a PC user.

I think it depends on the kind and severity of the swirls. How did they get there in the 1st place?
 
Yes, it is much easier and faster than doing it by hand! A PC is not as fast at removing defects as a rotary, but a PC is much safer if you don't have experience with machine polishing, and still much faster than by hand.

What i really mean is from a business perspective would it be beneficial? Also, do you think it's more harmful to the paint than polishing out swirls by hand?

I think most (if not all) paint reconditioning should be done by machine. It's not a matter of harming the finish, it's a matter of being able to sucessfully correct the problem. Hand polishing is mostly performed for applying wax and not for defect correction. There's a few people here that do everything by hand, but I'm not sure if they are truely correcting the finish or just pacifying the customers needs.
 
assuming light swirls...does anyone have a rough time estimate on doing an entire average sized car? i can't even imagine...40 hours? 50? 60?!? an amateur guess would be that doing SMR by hand has to take at least 10x as long.



so, yes...a PC is very beneficial...and i believe you can get a clearer finish with the machine than could be possible by hand.

But of course a machine is better. You can't achieve the same consistantcy by hand as you would by machine. The speed, the coverage, the time saved etc. Rotary is quicker than a PC; the PC is quicker than hand.



Get one. Or both.
 
Can you remove swirls by hand? Yes, you can do... light swilrs espeically, as you can be hand break down a hand polish (like ScratchX) asnd abrade away a very thin layer of paint... This will remove very light swirls, and perservere and you will eventually be able to remove many of the swirls. Its a matter of time, by hand. But by time, I mean a *very* long time for an entire vehicle and if you planned on doing this as a business, I would most definitely say that a machine polisher is essential.
 
You can mow your lawn with scissors also, but I sure love my mower.:lol

From a business point of view, I can't imagine doing it by hand. You'll love the PC.:2thumbs:

Very light swirls I have, but I can still see the heavier stuff. Any auggestions for pads to get with the PC?
 
All kind of info on pads and polishes here. Not trying to be rude but do a search (type in pads, top toolbar) and you'll have probably many questions answered.
