Question about Subaru gray paint

does anyone have any insight into subaru's steel gray metallic paint? The car is an 06 wrx, and i'm looking to buy some new polishes (sfx123 are running low), and i am trying to tailor my decision to the cars paint/clear characteristics. I only detail as a hobby, so this is really the only car i need to worry about, and i use a UDM... if that makes a difference.

any recommendations for polish on subaru gray is welcomed.

Also, i just joined the forum, and i'm glad to be on board!:woot2:

From what I've read, Meg's #80 might be a good idea. I think many new cars have a soft clearcoat, so you don't want anything with too much bite unless you need heavy correction.

I was able to remove the spider swirls from a metallic black WRX with 3M's Ultrafina, Ultrafina pad and the rotary which is not a particularly aggressive combo.

Meguiars #80, maybe #83 with a yellow Meguiars polishing pad ought to work. So will Optimum Polish or Compound via PC.

i already have yellow, white, and black ccs pads... if i went oc and op, should i start with op on a black? or will that not have enough bite? should i buy a green one for the middle ground?

I know a little about it...I have the same one :)

I like Optimum Polishes. I've been trying wolfgangs new 3.0 line (formulated with Menzerna) and so far really like their version of Menzerna SIP..."Total Swirl Remover' not 100% satisfied with their 106ff version though.

This isn't a great shot of the paint...but you get the point :)

I was looking at the wolfgangs line as well, so maybe i'll try that. Do you have any insight on the clear coat? soft/hard?

have you tried oc/op on it?

edit: i see AG is having a sale on the wolfgang twins... anyone wanna give me a yay or nay?

If this is the color, I used the rotary but you can most likely get results with the UDM and orange pad. Depending on how bad the paint is.

Where are you in NoVa?

about 10 minutes west of tysons. Great falls, like 100 yards off of route 7.

That is the exact color! The paint really isnt bad at all, i've been using the sfx bundle, but they are low so its time to move on. What was your process on that car?

clearcoat is pretty soft

and yes I've used OC and OP on it. Both have great results, though the working time is pretty dang long with a PC.

And as mentioned, I'm enjoying the Wolfgang Combo, but still learning how to use the final polish, it was a little finicky on my Subaru, but worked great on a BMW I did.
