QUestion about sap on paint.

To my dismay I was greeted with a giant blob of sap on my fender today. It did not budge with conventional techniques.

I took some concentrated carwash and worked over the area with the clay. After about 10 minutes the sap was gone but now in its place is a hazy spot that stands out and feeld different from the rest of the car. What exactly did the clay do and how do I get fid of it, thanks in advance.

Could be dulling or marring from the clay, after that much time in one spot. Polishing the area should do the trick. Easy fix for most tree sap is rubbing alcohol. Dirt cheap, available everywhere (probably already have some in your house). Pour a little on a towel and wipe the sap away. Sometimes it'll look cloudy, just repeat with a clean part of the towel. You will have to rewax the spot but it literally will remove the sap in seconds. It's rare I run into a blob that it doesn't remove, even stuff that has been dried on for a long time.

"Stuff on paint," when it is not a solid in it's original form (poop, sap, cement, tar, etc.) should be removed not abrasively but by reversing the chemical reaction that causes it to go solid. Otherwise, you get abrasive marks on your paint.

I've not tried PhaRO's rubbing alcohol, but in the same family I've used methyl hydrate from the hardware store. Sheep, efficient, non-abrasive, it works like a charm.

So...
Hyundai XG comes in. Sap. No problem. I say it should just take a few minutes.
I tried:
1. Methyl Hydrate--got off the black & stick part, but left a yellow stain.
2. Rubbing Alcohol
3. Citrus Solvent
4. Mineral Spirits
5. Farecla G3 compound
6. PB SSR2.5
7. 3M Adhesive Remover
8. Zep SoyCling
9. Spit

Nothing worked.

So, I wetsanded a small section (1500)--still the stain did not go away.

Hyundai clear is thin, so I told the customer I couldn't do anything. He said, "Wax it anyway," so I polished the hood for free and waxed it. Uggh.

Its from concentrating on the area with the clay & soap...by the fact that you have removed all protection from that area...I would polish that out by hand and then reapply some wax or what ever you had on the car...I doubt that there is any problems from the sap sounds like it was not on there that long....that's my take
