Question about PPCL...

After using Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Lotion, do I need to wash the car before applying a wax or sealant like klasse SG, zaino, or blitz?

My finish is not lasting as long as I would like, I am thinking it is because I put SG over the PPCL. I buffed the PPCL off, but I didn't wash it off. Does this matter?

I did not wash mine after PPCL and it worked just fine. I used AIOx2 first though. If your happy all the PPCL is removed then SG away. I'd QD any remaining PPCL before I opted to wash it.

Any reason your skipping AIO?

what you mean by the finish is not holding up? drop in gloss? water beading? slickness? How long? Maybe your expectations are a little too high.

I'm skipping AIO because Brad recommended that I do... I agree with him, why use AIO when the paint is already perfectly clean from PPCL? Then again, maybe this is part of my problem...

I did my car back in mid november; dawn, clay, regular wash, ppcl, the 2x of the klasse SG. No topper, didn't have the time :(

It was really cold here in December so the first wash since then was about a week ago. I have a garage, but no hose. The water just doesn't seem to bead and the finish doesn't have a very slick feeling to it anymore. My car sits in a garage at night, but is parked outside during the day M-F...

Mazman I think that your hunch is correct. PPCL has oils and glossifiers in it that have probably prevented the SG from bonding correctly. I would try washing after the PPCL to remove those oils and then get busy with the SG.

I didn't notice much oily residue, however, when using PPCL. It buffs off very clean.

With my trials of SG, I didn't get much beading either, but sheeting. Slickness was not GREAT, but the paint was smooth, I guess it all depends on what you are used to and what you are benchmarking it against. The car that I applied SG too is in the garage now, and gets maintained with QD'er about once a week. While water beading and slickness were not 100% to my liking, the gloss has remained and is impressive.

I agree with Brad, no reason to use AIO on a new car. I would stick to that regime.

What wash are you using? Maybe it is too harsh for the SG.

I'm using a carwash that Audi sells, it is actually made for them by Eagle One. I believe its just Eagle One's car wash repackaged. The first time I used it I was really impressed by it, good suds, good smell, worked well. Funny thing is though each time I use it I like it less and less... It doesn't seem any harsher than the P21S bodywork shampoo I used to use.

DetailKing, If klasse doesn't bead and doesn't leave the finish slick for a long time, how can I tell when I need to reapply?

My wife skin .....does not have that old water beeding,,,, holding up like she use too...has drop in gloss ? lost her slickness? Maybe my expectations are a little too high.

This I should clay her down, use Dawn, then SG or is it a lost cause...

Boy im bore..can't wait for spring..

You probably do not want to wait for all the protection to be gone before re-applying. Although polymer sealants provide you with the luxury of not having to slap on another coat as often as a carnauba, I definitely wouldn't wait 5, 6, 12 months or however long Klasse is purported to last because even a polymer sealant's protection would probably be seriously compromised if it was on its last legs.

Assuming you aren't going to apply a carnauba topper, I would recommend putting on another coat if you start to notice any diminishment in shine. I try not to go more than 2-3 months between applying fresh coats.

Could the loss of slickenss be caused by using a synthetic shammy? I recently started using a drying cloth sold by Audi, they call it PVA synthetic drying cloth. It used to slide effortlessly over the paint at one time, now it seems to grab alot. Could this be pulling the klasse off of my car by dragging it over the paint?

Quite possible. I never drag mine across the finish because i know it will wear down the surface protection. "Blot" with it and use a cotton towel for final drying. QD afterwards.

I would follow Brad's suggestion. One more thing. I don't think Brad has ever stated to not use AIO on a new car. We all know for a fact that he loves using Finnesse It 2 and has done so on a new car. What Brad meant was that there's no sense in using AIO after Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing lotion since they both do the same basic job. Laters

Yes it's okay, unless you get hazing from the SG then we'll blame the lack of washing your car on it :) There's an extremely good chance you won't get hazing so it's not even really a gamble. I did not wash my car after the PPCL and before the AIO. You might want to do the AIO twice to make up for it, assuming the PPCL residue is the reason for any hazing should you get it. makes sense? :D Hope that helped, dude.

Looking back you were asking about SG. Why aren't you going to use AIO, you're using PPCL. If you're car is new, then you shouldn't need the PPCL to begin with. Or you can just use the AIO if you need some cleaning and bypass the PPCL. hmmm
