Question about PC Pad & detailing spots

Hi,

I currently own a PC 7336SP with a 6' backing pad (Meguair). Though, all my pads are from Meguiar and they are 6 1/2' detailing pad. When I use the PC, I get a quite of vibration, I was wondering if I should upgrade my backing pad to 6 1/2'?

Thanks!

Yea, the SP came with the 6' counter weight (backing pad?). Whichever it is, I bought one that's 6' from Meguiar, then I stick Meguiar pad onto the counter weight (backing pad?).

The counter weight and backing pad are two different things. The counter weight is inside the head of the unit and balances out the weight of the backing plate and pad during the orbiting motion. stevet is right, the 7336 already has the 6" counterweight from the factory.

Upgrading to a larger (and therefore heavier) backing plate would actually probably make the vibrating worse.

I don't have a PC yet, but from what I've read, it does vibrate quite a bit, especially at higher speeds. Hopefully someone else can chime in, but what you are feeling might just be normal vibrations.

Yes, the pc does vibrate a good bit under normal operation. As long as you are able to control the pc, the vibrations are probably normal.

I just found out something new. Do you guys mist the compounding pad with water before using them? If so, how much do you mist them?

Just my comment, I use both the variable contact Lake Country Pads and the full flat Meguiars pads on my 7336SP. The Meguiars does "vibrate" a bit more but not uncontrollably or uncomfortable, even at high speeds. But my backing plate(s) are the CMA VBP-6 and Porter Cable 18002. I would suspect the Meguiars backing plate itself is unbalanced more than the make or style of the pad.

Depending on what I am doing, generally I mist my pad(s) slightly with either water or QD. I bought one of those garden "Delta" 40oz trigger sprayers from OSH hardware and on extra fine mist, just ½ to one squeeze of the trigger is enough.

Ah!

Should I bother trying out other backing plate?

So it's ok to mix a little of water with the compound?

Thanks for all the help!

Don't bother with the larger backing plate, probably won't make much of a difference. Try removing the handle all together and just rest your hand on the back of the PC. Easier to keep the PC level, reduces some vibration.
