Question about fillers

Ok folks, I need some education here. Can someone explain to me about fillers. Im getting confused about what it is. I always thought that a product that contain fillers was a product with wax or oils/ sealant? I was under the impression that the 3M professional swirl mark remover had no fillers, because the bottle states that it has no waxes, oils, sealant?

(Note--I had spiderwebs fine scratches on the vehicle, very little if any. I opted to use the SMR to try on the vehicle, and very pleased with the results, especially under the halogen lights. --Car is relatively brand new 4 months old)

Need some education on this subject. Thanks

fillers are sometimes contained in polishes and glazes. Their purpose is to fill in swirl marks and reduce their appearance. This is an alternative to compounding out these types of defects. It doesn't make the problem go away, it just hides it for a while.

Just because a product doesn't contain waxes or sealants, doesn't mean it doesn't have fillers.

3M SMR is a great product for what it is....more of a glaze than a true polish. It has fantastic filling ability. If you have a black daily driver and do not want to be doing serious polishing every month, SMR is a great product to use to hide the swirls.

However, it's like pondscum said, it's just a temporary solution, as the abrasives in it are so minor that there is very little paint correction being applied. It's only effective for the lightest of swirls.

Thx for the reply's, my vehicle is definetly a daily driver and is parked outside about 75% of the time. I really like the way the vehicle turned out, but was a bit dissapointed on the fillers. In all, Im not to terribly bummed out because I can save the real work for another day. Let the accumulation build up a bit since really there isnt much.

Thank you again,

fillers are like make-up, they're there to present the illusion of a "perfect" surface but the imperfections will eventually return 'cause they were never removed .... only hidden.

Kind of like the drop-dead gorgeous girl who comes home from the beach after a day of sun & surf and she doesn't look at all like the girl who left the house in the morning. The make-up is gone & the crows-feet at the corners of her eyes and the smile lines are back.
