Question about detailing carbon fiber surfaces..

My friend wants a detail and says he just got an aftermarket carbon fiber hood for his Eclipse. How should I approach this? Are they clear coated? Safe for abrasive polishing if it has swirl marks? I think if it's clean and defect free, some VM and a coat of wax will do.

Its an epoxy resin so just use some VM, i think sean aka GSRstilez has done carbon fibre bonnet.

so i can use the same process and products as normal paint?

Yeppers. I do all the time. As a matter of fact I supply a local carbon fiber producer with Poorboy's SSR's that he uses on all of his carbon fiber parts before they go on the vehicles or whatever theya re going on.

Well... it depends who actually makes the hood. Some use a gelcoat / UV protection coat only. Some clear them just like a car. I'd ask who makes it and give them a call to see what process they use to make the hood. Just like all aftermarket parts some are cheap and some are quality..those cheap ones can be very easy to mess up.

thanks for the responses

i detailed that car with the cf hood and it was pretty clean to begin with

i used vm and topped it off with EX w/ Carnauba and it turned out really well

pictures will be posted when the owner sends em to me
