question about 98 sentra...

I have a 1998 white sentra that I have to do on Sunday afternoon. It looks as though the paint has oxidation and when you run your hand across it, I get a white-ish powder. (not a lot, but a little)

My question is .....is this single stage paint from Nissan? I wasn't sure if it was, but I believe it is....especially the way it comes off when touched. I wasn't sure if clearcoated paint would do this.

I was thinking of hitting it with a white pad and OC to start with, because I don't want to go too aggressive as the car is older and the paint may be a bit thin. The entire car is dull and needs to be gone over.

I was then going to use a finishing polish and then wax it.

Does this sound like a good plan? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mike

I would think it is not single stage, but you never know. Use a dark colored towel and hand polish a small area to see if white paint transfers to your towel. Are you using an orbital or rotary? No need to be concerned with an orbital. BTW, I owned a 91 Sentra that was white; the paint was clear coated.

Brad,

I will be using my pc and the white chalky substance definately comes off when touched with anything. Maybe I'll try it by hand first to see what the results are.

Thanks for the input

Use the PC on a small panel (maybe a C pillar?) and evaluate your results.

Me? I'd use a rotary. The PC may get the job done, but it will take awhile.

Regardless of whether it is singlestage.

Thanks JB....I planned on doing a smaller area out of the way, but unfortunatley I don't have a rotary. I need to practice more with my buddies before I take it to customer paint.

Thanks again
