Q's on Poorboy's SSR Line ...

Well, i've seen a lot of good stuff about EX-P and i like its ability to be used in the sun ... since i have no garage. It also seems that VM is great under EX-P (and i def. want to see this for myself) but my car needs some swirl removal work before all of this. I haven't heard too much about the SSR Line of swirl removers but i'm sure they have been used by someone out there. How abrasive are they? compared to say, 1Z stuff? and are they able to be applied by hand?

i was looking at 1Z stuff and Four Star UPP but the waiting time for that doesn't make me smile ... esp. with all the pollen here in PA right now. Can i use the SSR stuff successfully? or can/should i use another swirl remover under VM/EX-P

any help is well appreciated

thanks,

alex

I personally wouldnt use any swirl remover by hand. I have used the SSR1 and SSR2 and they both work rather well if your paint isnt real bad. Weather or not they contain fillers I dont know. Some people say the do others say they dont. PoorBoy himself says they dont so I guess he should be the one to know.

I have never used the VM so I cant comment on it but I think I read somewhere where it will handle minor swirls.

While the EX-P looks great dont expect the slickness to last very long. Mine was gone in a week.

The 1z Linup is a good one but they do contain wax and fillers.

If your looking to get them out not just hide them I would opt for the Menzerna IP or FP

as far as applying Swirl Remover by hand ... yes, i already know using a machine is best ... and yes, i know i will not get the BEST results by hand ... but i've got two hands and no PC ... there are some products that, although work much better by PC, also will work by hand ... like 1Z.

as far as Menzerna is concerned ... i've read and been told to steer clear of it by hand, so i think i'll pass on that.

i just want to know what i can use under VM and EX-P that won't prevent proper bonding but will let me get out SOME imprefections and swirls, and since i was looking at Poorboy's already, i'm just trying to gether an opinion of the SSR products.

i missed this the first time i read your post, but did you really say one week? on a clean car and everything? gone? cause from what i've read its at least supposed to be better than your average Carnauba ... i mean, my S100 will last at least a week and a half to 2 weeks

I used SSR2 and a Meguiars cutting pad on a rotary to remove sanding marks from a Yukon yesterday. The SSR2 was able to remove the sanding marks and the surrounding swirls while leaving the finish in a ready to wax state. By hand, unless you have the arms of Popeye, I'm going to wish you lots of luck.

I wouldnt pay much attention to that above comment about EX-P. It has been on my car for about a month, still as slick as day one. On top of that, really reflective and really wet looking. Give it a shot, it works and looks great over VM.

BREAKNECKVTEC,

My mine still shines as good as the day it was put on but it just fails to have that slick feeling. Could be because I only got 1 layer on.

I have applied both SSR1 and SSR@ by hand with out problems. I waould say that SSR2 will work BEST with a PC or rotary, but can be applied by hand nonetheless.

Remeber that with the SSR2 you will need to really rub quickly in order for it breakdown properly. I prefer folded 100% cotton terry towels for swirl remover by hand.

Sometimes when I first get a product I will apply it by hand just so that I can really get a feel for when and how quickly it breaks down. I think it allows you to better understand how a particular product works, anyway...

Here is SSR2 by hand straight to EX:

ebpcivicsi -- was the finish ready for wax (or glaze) right after the SSR2? or would it be better to follow with SSR1 before a glaze (VM in my case) and you have a nice lookin Si ... i do actually like Honda's when they're all the same color, and have spoilers that don't resemble park benches ... good job man.

I think that for OPTIMUM results that SSR1 would have added something to the paint, but *I* felt that it was ready for wax.

I also used SSR2, NXT, 16 last weekend on my dark green (almost black) accord. The finish was outstanding.

I feel that if worked properly the SSR2 will leave a finish that is ready for wax.

About the car, thanks I appreciate it.

Not all Honda drivers have bumble exhausts, 4 foot wings, and rev at every corvette on the road. Just like all volvo owners are not soccer moms hauling groceries. ;) :xyxthumbs

When I used SSR2 on my silver WRX, I didn't follow up with a milder polish (didn't appear to need it); however, I did a Java Black Forester this past weekend, and SSR2 left some minor hazing (PC, yellow cutting pad), so I chased it with a lighter polish, and it turned out great.

I think, like so many products out there, there isn't a definitive answer . . . it may vary from car to car, paint color to paint color, etc.

Thanks guys ... more choices, oh great ... but i'll just have to start somewhere and build my arsenal ... if only the funds would all be present now ... thanks everyone
