In the rare case that I need to use a wheel cleaner, I spray in on one wheel/tire/well, scrub with the designated brushes/sponges, and then i just rinse it away by rewashing the areas with QEW (just washing them like it was paint). I haven't had a problem with wheel cleaner left behind. Just make sure you don't put the wash mitt back on the car's paint.
