QEW custom mixture + EX-P question

Ok, got two quick questions:



Has anybody added a capful of QEW to their regular wash solution for some added lubricity? I am thinking of doing this especially now due to the pollen season to prevent marring if possible.



Also, I applied EX-P my first time around with a dry applicator in the sun. Bad move, it caused problems. I missed the part where your supposed to dampen the applicator. :o I misted a MF applicator pad the last time around with water and the EX-P spread better but still not great. Removal was so-so. I am a little worried to use a foam hand pad. For some reason I have it in my head that its too abrasive to use a foam hand pad to apply protectant and worry it will strip the fillers and stuff from my VM and current layer of EX-P. Should I use a foam hand pad for EX-P? I only ask because I love the look but I really had application problems with it and the MF applicator pad. Would dampening with a QD help it more? I need some tips as I plan to add another coat in the next few weeks. Also, if removal gets a bit tough for whatever reason, ie put it on too thick by mistake, can I mist the area with a QD to remove or am I essentially removing more than just residue by doing this? Thanks.
 
I actually prefer the foam applicators when applying sealants. Actually I really don't use MF applicators at all, I have some, but they collect dust. I don't think that foam is harsh at all :nixweiss



Do you find that the MF applicators soak up and waste too much product?



I would guess that by spraying with QD to remove the area would be OK. BUT it may affect maximize durability as you have "touched" it before it has fully cured. I like to leave waxes or sealants untouched by anything for 24 hours.
 
I suppose maybe it felt like that because I used the foam pad dry :o



So I should mist the foam pad with water the go ahead with the EX-P? And yes, I find the MF does waste some product.



Good point on the QD, last time it came off easy enough I didnt have to do that, spreading it around however was kind of a PIA with the damp MF app.
 
How about using your PC with a finishing pad for application of EX-P. I have applied many sealants (WG,Zaino, UPP, BFII, EX, NXT,etc) via this method. This also answers your question about using a foam hand pad.... very safe and gentle.

That's how I plan to apply my EX-P when it arrives. :xyxthumbs

I definitely recommend applying the EX (P) with a foam applicator. I use the Viking/Autopia Blue (door knob) applicator misted with either Poorboy's S&W or Mother's Showtime and EX (don't have the P version yet) and UPP apply like a dream. Very easy to apply a thin coat.



As for blkZ28Conv's recommendation for using the PC and finishing pad for application, though I have not used that method personally, it gets a lot of good press for providing a method/technique for applying thin, even coats.
 
I've been using a foam pad to apply EX-P. Don't mist it either. With practice, you will be able to spread it thinly. I do agree it doesn't spread as easily as some other products, but it isn't that bad and the end result is well worth it.
 
I used the enclosed MF applicator pad with my Tropi-care kit this past weekend and wasn't impressed at all. At first I wasn't sure if it was the product or how I was applying, but later that day I helped my cousin detail his explorer and he used a foam pad and it was a lot easier. I got a couple MFs and guess will just use them on the interior for now on.
