QD substitute?

ive decided just to get the pc 7427 online. im leaning towards the one at top of the line which includes:

Porter Cable 7424 Orbital Polisher with wrench and foam pad/plate combo.

6" Velcro Pad Holder

7.5" Lake Country VC Cutting Pad

7.5" Lake Country VC Polishing Pad

7.5" Lake Country VC Finishing Pad

(2) 6" Terry Bonnets

6" Flat Foam Polishing Pad

4" Mini Foam Polishing Pad

4" Mini Foam Finishing Pad

4" Velcro Pad Holder

this one is about 20 dollars cheaper than the one at autopia and seems to have more stuff included. can i just get this alone w/o buying any other types of pads for now?

Sure, it sounds like a pretty complete kit, but you may want to order an extra polish pad or two to go with it.

As John suggested, get an extra two polishing pads. You'll need about three to do a car as each pad loads up and needs cleaning. The VC pads are good but the flat ones are easier to use and good for general polishing.

A couple of the white 6.5' pads will do the trick. http://www.topoftheline.com/lake-country-polisher-pads.html

A couple of other things to be aware of:

1) Don't use the terry bonnet in the kit if its just a cotton one...if its MF then its ok.

2) Keep the PC branded pad in the kit for polishing glass/chrome bumpers, not the paint...its low quality and will quickly disintergrate.

ill keep that in mind. will it also work if i buff off the polish and wax with a MF towel instead of a bonnet?

Absolutely, that's the regular way. Some also place a MF towel flat on the paint, then 'trap' it under a flat pad and use it as a 'loose bonnet' with the PC.
