QD Safety Question

Being a relative newbie to this stuff, I've a quick question about quick detailers.

I seem to see a lot of folks saying that they'll use a QD product between washes. Isn't it dangerous on a dusty or dirty car to spray on a product and then rub wipe it off? It seems to me that any dust or other particulates could potentially scratch the car.

I'd like to use a QD to wipe off the area behind my wheel wells when brake dust gets on them (BMW). Is this a reasonable thing to do?

Thanks!

Using a clean MF and a QD on a lightly dusty surface shouldn't pose too big a threat. You have the potential for marring any time that you "rub" the surface - being with a QD or a soapy wash mitt.

I had this phobia forever too, until today that is. Just got my PoorBoys Spray and Wipe and used it today. Just a few sprays over the semi dirty or dusty surface, a nice plush MF towel and BAM, clean and nice! IMO, I would only use this on dusty, water spotted or very lightly dirty vehicles. I did my whole truck in about 15 minutes using about 4 towels with fresh surfaces. A QD spray would do the same thing, as most can be used as a "waterless" wash.

Like Jared said, anytime you wipe the surface of your vehicle the potential for marring is there.

Mike has discovered S&W and will probably find it will replace his QD for cleaning up even a dusty car. My QDs now get used for improving the appearance rather than cleaning. If it's dusty, it gets S&W. If I just washed it and want to add a little pop, it gets a QD.
If it weren't for the fact that I have about 3 gallons of various QDs to use up, I would very likely use S&W exclusively.

not all qd are created equal i have yet to find a qd that cleans without marring quite like s&w. only thing that comes close but isnt equal to is adams ds. s&w also gives no real look after so i clasify it a lot more as a waterless wash than a qd spray.

OK -- Would Spray and Wipe work on my black Hemi after driving it on ten miles of dusty gravel road? If something is to good to be true, it usually is. :D

I've had very good luck using QEW, but it certainly isn't quick.

It probably would be OK, but trying it on one panel might be better than doing the whole truck and finding out I'm wrong.
My use of QEW is for my window cleaner since I started using the S&W.
If you buy some and don't like it, I'll buy it from you.
Or PM me your address and I can send you some S&W to try.

Thanks, Charles.

I'll just order a small bottle. I can always use it as a QD if it doesn't work.

I use the california car duster before any qd'ing. Get rid of the dust first then i do the cleaning. I dont want to chance scratching the paint while using the mf towel and qd.
